About the role:

Support and assist the project team and the Senior Environmental Scientist in the efficient, effective planning and execution of project works related to environmental monitoring programme to be enacted prior to and during dewatering works at BHP’s Nelsons Point facility. This is a fixed term contract for approx. 12 months.

(FIFO Perth to Port Hedland | 2:1 roster | Perth or Port Hedland-based candidates only)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and assist the Senior Environmental Scientist to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Conduct dewatering effluent, surface water and groundwater field monitoring and
    laboratory sampling
  • Ensure laboratory samples are taken in line with standard sampling methodologies
  • Dispatch of laboratory samples from NPE Port Hedland branch to Perth laboratory.
  • Responding to and informing the Snr Environmental Scientist of any water quality criteria exceedance.
  • Operating LV within the BHP area of development in line with BHP safety protocol.
  • Adherence to BHP safety protocols at all times

Essential:

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Prior use of water quality instruments (YSI), low flow sampling (peristaltic and/or bladder pumps)
  • Bachelor of Science/Environmental Science (or similar)
  • Construction white card, general construction site experience (or willing to obtain)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Patient, flexible and adaptable to changing and challenging circumstances with great problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to work well with other team members and champion the NPE brand
  • Ability to work with flexibility and initiative with limited direction or supervision

Desirable:

  • Experience in the Rental, Mining, Construction or Heavy industries
  • Previous mine site experience would be advantageous, especially BHP.
  • Intermediate water chemistry knowledge
