The work we do at the Kentucky Division for Air Quality has a direct impact on the health, welfare and economic security of all Kentuckians. To ensure that economic growth occurs while preserving existing air resources, the Division for Air Quality issues permits that contain all applicable requirements to these important manufacturing facilities.

We currently have an opening for an Environmental Engineer Technologist I. This position is in the Combustion Section of the Permit Review Branch, which issues permits for power plants, distilleries, saw mills, wood drying, food manufacturing, charcoal, and landfill gas-to-energy.

We are looking for someone who is a detail oriented and independent worker but still enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. The preferred candidate will have time management and decision making skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position will provide you with the opportunity to work across branches within the Division and with the regulated community.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs engineering reviews of permit applications
  • Performs pollutants of concern engineering calculations
  • Provides technical assistance to applicants and Division staff
  • Provides recommendations regarding the issuance of air permits
  • Attends necessary training

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering approved by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Frequent travel throughout the state may be required.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
