The Environmental Engineer II is responsible for implementing and managing environmental engineering projects and programs. This role involves applying engineering principles to address environmental challenges, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting sustainability initiatives. The Environmental Engineer II will work on a variety of projects, from site assessments to remediation and environmental impact analyses.
Essential Functions:
Support and implement environmental strategies and programs established by the company to promote an environment and sustainability culture.
Manage and execute environmental engineering projects, including site assessments, remediation activities, and compliance evaluations.
Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
Ensure that projects and operations comply with local, national and corporate environmental regulations and standards.
Prepare and submit necessary documentation and reports for regulatory agencies.
Conduct environmental site assessments (ESAs) to identify contamination and environmental risks.
Develop and implement remediation strategies to address environmental issues, such as soil and groundwater contamination.
Prepare technical reports, including environmental impact assessments and feasibility studies.
Design and oversee the installation of environmental control systems, such as air and water treatment systems.
Evaluate and recommend engineering solutions to minimize environmental impacts and improve sustainability.
Coordinate and deliver training of all employees in environmental best practices and emergency brigades in regards of hazardous chemical waste handling.
Provide technical support and consultation to internal teams and clients on environmental issues and engineering solutions.
Manage programs for waste management, as well as lead recycling efforts and campaigns.
Support and maintain certifications such as Zero Waste to Landfill, ISO 14001: Environmental Management System, ISO14064-1: GHG quantification and inventory along with INTE-B5 Carbon Neutrality, and others.
Generate, validate and update Environmental procedures, as well as review the SOPs and their respective approval.
Manage and ensure contractors services are executed as per contract agreements (such as: Waste handling vendors, Chemical Regency and Environmental Regency).
Manage and maintain Key Performance Indicators in target and improve with control and reduction projects.
Administer budget to comply with all expense needed and department’s metric along with savings projects.
Identify environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies to address potential impacts.
Conduct environmental audits and inspections to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Stay current with industry trends and advancements to incorporate best practices into projects Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including regulatory agencies, contractors, and consultants, to achieve project goals.
Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure alignment and address any concerns related to environmental projects.
Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the team.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of project activities, data, and compliance documentation.
Manage donations or destructions of assets and/or scrap material.
Manage the social responsibility committee and make sure to execute the plan established.
Support Health and Safety initiatives if needed by the EHS team.
Performs other related responsibilities as required.
Position requirements:
• 2-4 years’ experience in similar role. Medical device industry is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, engineering principles, and industry best practices.
• Knowledge of relevant Environmental certifications and standards (ISO 50001, ISO 14001, Carbon Neutrality) is highly desirable.
• Previous experience in Zero Waste to Landfill program certification.
• Knowledge and experience with MS Office.
Exclusive for Costa Rica role:
• Certified as a consultant within SETENA with at least 2 years of experience.
Formal education:
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineer, chemical engineer or similar.
Skills:
• Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead emergency situations including evacuations and chemical spill containments.
• Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels and proactively escalate issues to appropriate levels of management in the organization.
