Job Summary

As an Environmental Manager in Mapleton, Illinois, you will provide leadership, mentoring and direction to hourly, salaried and management personnel engaged in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) activities supporting a medium to large facility.

You will help strengthen environmental compliance and EHS performance by identifying safety, health and environmental hazards, supporting regulatory requirements, auditing programs and using performance trends to recommend improvements.

This position offers the opportunity to apply environmental expertise across air compliance and air permitting, drinking water, wastewater and hazardous waste regulations in a facility environment.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Strengthen Environmental Compliance - Apply your Environmental Health and Safety knowledge to support compliance with company standards, government regulations and applicable legal requirements.
  • Identify and Manage EHS Risk - Recognize common and more complex safety, health and environmental hazards and establish guidelines for protection from those hazards.
  • Turn Insights Into Improvements - Monitor performance reports for trends and conditions, alert line management to problems and recommend improvements.
  • Develop EHS Capability - Provide leadership, mentoring and direction to employees and leaders engaged in EHS activities and help ensure required EHS training is completed.
  • Support Responsible Operations - Apply EHS policy compliance, risk management, collaboration, problem solving and sustainability knowledge to support facility operations.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify common and more complex safety, health and environmental hazards inherent in operations and establish guidelines for protection from those hazards.
  • Ensure EHS training is completed to comply with regulatory requirements or support facility, division or enterprise objectives.
  • Audit safety, health and environmental programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations and adequacy relative to local conditions.
  • Monitor periodic performance reports for trends and conditions, alert line management to problems and recommend improvements.

What Skills You Will Have

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Policy Compliance: Extensive knowledge of EHS policies and the ability to implement EHS policies to ensure products and services are safe for people and the environment and comply with legal requirements and standards.

Risk Management: Extensive knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risk and the ability to apply risk management knowledge across diverse situations.

Collaborating: Extensive knowledge of collaborative techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Problem Solving: Extensive knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for recognizing, anticipating and resolving organizational, operational or process problems.

Sustainability: Basic knowledge of sustainability strategy and the ability to integrate sustainability into overall business strategy to help build a sustainable business model.

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Extensive experience in air compliance, emission control equipment, and air permitting.
  • Experience with drinking water, wastewater and hazardous waste regulations.
  • Experience working in a foundry, oil and gas, or paper mill environment.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
