The Outdoor Education Specialist will play an active role in delivering engaging outdoor education programs to students in grades 3-8. With a focus on inquiry-based science, adventure recreation, leadership development activities, and outdoor life skills, this position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking hands-on experience in outdoor education and youth development. This is an ideal role for individuals passionate about education, environmental science, and working with youth in an outdoor setting.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging, inquiry-based outdoor education classes on topics such as science, leadership development, and outdoor living skills (e.g., fire building, navigation, and shelter-making).
- Facilitate adventure-based recreation activities such as archery, canoeing, and rock climbing for students and retreat participants.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for students.
- Assist with the design and adaptation of educational curriculum to meet program goals and student needs.
- Facilitate team-building and leadership activities to help students develop confidence, communication, and collaborative skills.
- Model and teach environmental stewardship, outdoor ethics, and a love for learning in nature.
- Support students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) through positive interactions, problem-solving, and experiential education.
- Collaborate with camp leadership, mentors, and fellow staff to evaluate and improve program delivery.
- Assist with additional camp responsibilities as needed (e.g., meal times, evening programs, and work projects).
Compensation and Schedule
- Pay: $450 per week, with room and board included.
- Schedule: 5 days per week, including some weekend shifts.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Enthusiasm for working with youth in an outdoor setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be organized, adaptable, and eager to learn.
- Comfortable communicating with teachers, parents, and children.
- Interest in teaching science, leadership, or outdoor living skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Prior experience and certification in camp program areas (e.g., lifeguarding, high ropes, archery) preferred.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to start date (preferred).
- Positive, service-oriented attitude serving diverse groups of campers in regard to age, abilities, ethnicity, gender, race, economic status, religion, etc.
- Able to fulfill all demands in spirit, mind, and body as an outdoor education instructor.
