The Environmental Education Instructor (Temporary/Hourly) supports the instructional goals of St. Mary’s County Public Schools by delivering engaging and effective environmental education programs. This position contributes to student achievement by implementing experiential learning opportunities that align with state and local curriculum standards.

Integrate SMCPS content standards to deliver interdisciplinary environmental education.
Engage and motivate students through interactive, hands-on learning experiences.
Work outdoors in various environmental conditions, including hot, cold, or inclement weather, on uneven terrain, and in and around water or wildlife.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design, coordinate, and implement county-wide environmental education programs.
Deliver instructional programs aligned with Maryland State Department of Education standards and SMCPS curriculum goals.
Collaborate with the Environmental Education Coordinator to develop and enhance instructional content and field programs.
Teach environmental field and classroom programs for Pre-K–12 students at various school and field sites, covering topics such as ecology, natural resources, canoeing, and water safety.
Provide professional development and instructional support for SMCPS teachers and staff.
Partner with teachers and community organizations to deliver quality environmental education experiences.
Maintain instructional sites and program materials, ensuring safe and effective learning environments.
Participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities to enhance instructional practice.
Qualifications
Required:
Associate degree or higher
Experience in outdoor or environmental education
Prior instructional experience in water safety, canoeing, or kayaking preferred
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
Ability to work effectively with students of all grade levels
