Under limited supervision and oversight, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope.

Responsibilities include providing training, guidance and other necessary support to business unit leadership and staff on applicable environmental requirements, identifying applicable environmental requirements associated with Company assets and projects, and coordinating with the appropriate business unit staff, Environmental Services representatives, contractors, and external parties to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.

The Environmental Coordinator should understand some of the following environmental programs:

• Above ground and underground storage tanks
• Transportation of hazardous materials
• Solid and hazardous waste management
• Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures
• Wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and drinking water sampling, reporting and control
• Oil and chemical spill response and management
• Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting
• Asbestos and PCB management
• Pollution prevention
• Environmental site assessments
• Emergency planning, and community right-to-know

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinates safety programs including recommendation and communication of, safety program modifications and protective equipment evaluation and use. Conduct and/or monitor periodic safety audits of the S&H efforts, prepare reports of such audits and discuss the results with management.
  • Make recommendations on changing policies, procedures and programs to meet safety objectives which include all appropriate state and federal laws. Keep current with all reporting standards and prepare reports reflecting Company accident and injury experience and recommend alternatives to strengthen accident control measures.
  • Where applicable, oversee contractor S&H oversight program for Business units including recommendations and communication of leading indicators and incident investigation learnings. Conduct and / or monitor periodic safety job site observations of contractors. Manage onboarding process and review prequalification’s to assure compliance with Terms and conditions.
  • Provide a high level of interface with business units in reviewing and formulating Company positions related to the effect of proposed federal, state and OSHA standards on operations and coordinate with appropriate personnel.

What we’re looking for:

Environmental Coordinator Associate - (SG5)

  • Coordinate and maintain all environmental activities in the T&D regions to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures. Assist and provide input to Environmental Services on the development of Company environmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide training, instruction and assistance to employees on the implementation of environmental program requirements and assist in the development of environmental training materials.
  • Provide support in the event of an oil or chemical spill including making agency notifications, arranging contractor support, directing cleanup efforts if necessary and completing follow-up reports with regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct environmental reviews of regional disposal contractors and related facilities, assisting the lead auditor(s).
  • Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
  • Perform and/or oversee environmental site inspections, Phase I or II environmental site assessments and remediation projects, assisting the senior reviewer.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding environmental matters.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences (biology, chemistry, geology, physical science, etc.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of environmental experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and work well with other employees and external audiences.

  • These are additional expectations for the job and could include specific work experience, license / certifications, preemployment testing, expectations about travel, shift work, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate and implement environmental programs, policies and procedures and make sound recommendations and decisions in matters related to environmental operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and work well with other employees and external audiences.

Required License: Valid driver's license

Environmental Coordinator – (SG6)

  • Coordinate and implement all environmental activities and policies in the assigned region(s) to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations and Company policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals. Assist and provide input to Environmental Services on the development of Company environmental policies and procedures. Communicate deviations appropriately.
  • Provide training, instruction and assistance to others on the implementation of environmental requirements and assist in the development of environmental training materials.
  • Provide support in the event of a release or discharge of a regulated substance including making agency notifications, arranging contractor support, directing cleanup efforts if necessary and completing follow-up reports with regulatory agencies.
  • Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
  • Provide support during environmental compliance reviews, Phase I or II environmental site assessments and remediation projects.
  • Coordinate the response to public inquiries regarding environmental matters.
  • Develop and maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
  • Conduct environmental reviews of regional disposal contractors and related facilities and manage contracts associated with Environmental Services.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in environmental, science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of six years of environmental experience with an associate degree or four years of environmental experience with a bachelor’s degree.

Other Requirements:

  • Physical demand ranges from sedentary to light duty.
  • Must have intermediate knowledge of the programs listed in the job summary above.
  • Travel time ranges from 20% - 40% and will include overnight stays on occasion.
  • Must be available by phone after work hours and weekends; frequency is minimal.

Required License: Valid driver’s license

  • This role sits on site in Corpus Christi, TX or additional areas to include Abilene, TX or San Angelo, TX

$63,496.00 - $93,188.50
