Environmental Consultant II

Are you interested in joining a collaborative team that helps industrial clients navigate environmental compliance and sustainability challenges? At PROtect, you’ll work alongside experienced environmental professionals supporting clients across the renewable fuels, manufacturing, energy, and chemical industries.

We’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Engineer or Consultant to support environmental compliance, calculating and monitoring emissions, and related consulting projects. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, helping clients understand regulatory requirements, evaluate environmental impacts, analyze data, and develop practical solutions.

In this role, you’ll support PROtect’s Environmental clients by identifying potential risks and helping develop practical strategies to address them. Your work may support large and small industrial facilities such as general manufacturing, renewable fuel producers, and chemical plants, while working with local, state, and federal environmental requirements.

COMPENSATION

Competitive salary starting at $85,000, with the ability to go up based on experience and qualifications, plus incentive compensation and bonus program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

• Provide environmental consulting to clients on related environmental matters, ensuring clients’ compliance with regulations, developing timely and complete reports, conducting assessments, and/or preparing permit applications, environmental plans, and other approvals.
• Help clients understand and implement important requirements prescribed in facility permits, plans, and approvals. Guide customers on building a compliance framework.
• Assist clients in developing facility-specific environmental policies, plans, and procedures coupled with implementation.
• May pursue continuous learning opportunities annually.

SUBJECT EXPERTISE

• Provide technical expertise and services for air quality-related permits and plans that include but are not limited to: Air Construction and Operating Permits including Title V Permits, Potential-to-Emit (PTE) and actual emission calculations, management and operational plans associated with air permit requirements, etc.
• Provide technical expertise and services for water quality-related permits and plans that include but are not limited to: NPDES Discharge Permits, construction, and industrial stormwater plans, FRP and SPCC Plans.
• Prepare annual reports such as Tier II Reports, Emission Inventories, Toxics Release Inventories, and GHG Reporting.
• Assist facilities with ongoing compliance needs including but not limited to maintenance of permitting requirements such as 12-month rolling totals, quarterly and periodic compliance reports, and other required notifications.
• Preparing Risk Management Plans and associated backup documentation.
• Experience related to air dispersion analyses, running models, and compiling associated reports desired but not required.
• Complete onsite Environmental Assessments to evaluate a facility’s compliance.
• Research and interpret state and federal regulations.
• Support client discussions and interface with state and federal agencies. Effectively convey complex environmental information to diverse audiences and facility stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret data, identify risks, and develop practical solutions related to client jobs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification

Bachelor of Science degree in an environmental-focused, engineering, or other technical science degree is required.

Required Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum 4 years professional level environmental consulting, permitting, or compliance experience with understanding of EPA (CAA, CWA, TSCA, EPCRA, RCRA, etc.) and state specific regulations.
• Knowledge of general chemical, petrochemical, grain processing, and industrial manufacturing processes is preferred.
• Shall be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat.

Skills/Abilities

• Ability to sit for long periods of time and perform sedentary computer work. Able to work from home/remote and stay focused and productive.
• Strong writing, and interpersonal verbal communications skills. Ability to efficiently research, understand, and interpret environmental regulations and policies.
• Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, self-motivated to accomplish goals with remote oversight.
• Strong client service abilities with the ability to understand the big picture while remaining detail oriented.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

• Site visits required – may include up to 25% travel, or as needed. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
• May include work and/or travel on weekends.
• Potential to be exposed to loud noises, wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and changing weather conditions.
• May require lifting of up to 25 pounds on occasion.
