As an Environmental Code Compliance Officer, you’ll play an important role in protecting our natural resources and enhancing the quality of life in our community. You’ll be out in the field investigating concerns, inspecting residential and commercial properties, reviewing development plans, and helping ensure environmental, landscaping, and tree protection requirements are met. Just as importantly, you’ll serve as a trusted resource for residents, property owners, contractors, and community partners—helping them understand regulations, identify solutions, and achieve compliance. From protecting native plants and wildlife to addressing environmental violations and representing the County at hearings, your work will help create a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable community for everyone.

Examples of duties

Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of experience in code enforcement, and inspection.

Licenses and/or Certificates:

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must possess and maintain Level I certification through the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.)

Back in the office, you’ll keep cases moving forward by maintaining accurate records, preparing clear reports and correspondence, managing priorities, and collaborating with colleagues and community partners. This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working with people—and who wants their day-to-day work to have a visible impact on the community they serve.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequently lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment. Work typically requires moderate exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors, or dust).
