
Job Title: Environment and Sustainability Manager
Business Unit: Omexom – Substations

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Environment and Sustainability Manager to join Omexom, supporting the delivery of substations projects across Scotland. Working on nationally significant energy infrastructure schemes, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our projects are delivered safely, responsibly and sustainably, while meeting client, regulatory and Omexom standards.
These projects will contribute directly to the UK’s energy transition, enabling improved grid resilience, renewable energy integration and long‑term carbon reduction.
As Environment and Sustainability Manager, you will lead environmental and sustainability performance across the project lifecycle, providing technical leadership, governance and assurance while supporting project teams to deliver best‑in‑class environmental outcomes.
Role Responsibilities
Lead environmental and sustainability delivery for TOHL projects, ensuring compliance with all legal, client and Omexom requirements.
Identify, assess and manage environmental and sustainability risks and opportunities throughout project development, construction and close‑out.
Act as the primary environmental interface between Omexom, the Client (e.g. National Grid), regulators, landowners and sub‑contractors.
Prepare, implement and maintain Environmental and Sustainability Management Plans and associated procedures.
Provide visible site leadership through regular site visits, audits and briefings, ensuring environmental requirements are clearly communicated and embedded.
Manage specialist environmental sub‑contractors and consultants, including ecology, arboriculture, archaeology, noise and water management.
Support project teams in delivering Omexom’s sustainability objectives, including carbon reduction, resource efficiency and biodiversity enhancement.
Advise engineers and construction teams on environmentally sensitive construction methodologies, particularly within constrained or protected environments.
Lead environmental incident management, investigations and reporting where required.
Promote continuous improvement and innovation in environmental and sustainability performance across TOHL projects.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Proven experience in an Environment Manager / Environmental & Sustainability Manager role within major infrastructure or utilities projects.
Strong experience working within a Principal Contractor environment (essential).
Experience in power transmission, overhead lines, highways, rail or other linear infrastructure (desirable).
Demonstrable ability to identify, assess and manage environmental risks on complex construction sites.
Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and consenting regimes..
Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Confident communicator, able to engage site teams, senior management, clients and external stakeholders.
Degree‑level qualification (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), MIEMA, or actively working towards professional chartership.
Experience embedding sustainability and carbon‑reduction measures within construction delivery (desirable).
