Job Description

General Description:

The Spill Technician is responsible for ensuring that all clean-up is in full compliance with regulations and that the accumulation, monitoring and disposal of spill waste is maintained.

This position will be responsible for driving CCI's Mission, Vision, and Values, a crucial part of the strategic plan to drive success. CCI Industrial Services leads the industry in Safety, Innovation, and Excellence. CCI's mission is to provide quality-driven, cost-effective construction, maintenance, industrial cleaning, power generation, and transportation services to support resource development companies.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Ensure a safe work environment.
  • Comply with all guidelines, policies and procedures established by CCI while on shift, on call or attending training.
  • Initiate problem solving and perform repairs on any required spill response equipment, in a timely manner and within the boundaries of previous training.
  • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of site equipment and vehicles including but not limited to: pickup truck, snow machine, forklift, Bobcat loader and CDL vehicles.
  • Respond to and clean-up spills in the area(s) assigned, ensuring spill safety area(s) assigned, ensuring spill site safety, appropriate application of clean-up methods, safe operations of equipment and minimal environmental impact and adherence to regulatory guidelines.
  • Hazardous Waste Management including attending all required educational classes and ensuring that all activities are on compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate daily status of current projects to Lead Spill Technician to ensure all projects are timely and within CCI standards.
  • Maintain 100% "Compliance Readiness" in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain 100% "Safety Standards and Accountability" in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements.
  • Compliance with required HSE training.
  • Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.
  • Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly.
  • Facilitating or participating in CCI safety meetings, work safely and maintain a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI.
  • Willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident.
  • Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.
  • Assist with spill clean-up outside assigned location when directed to do so by CCI.
  • Maintain and demonstrate proficient working knowledge of all response-related equipment, policies, procedures and tactics at all times.
  • Participate in the CCI active list for spill responders.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings, training, exercises and drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Position may be exposed to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors. Arctic PPE is provided.
  • Position may be working with potentially hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Hard-toe safety footwear is required at all times while working.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work well with others in an environment that includes harsh weather conditions, remote locations and diversified personalities.
  • Ability to clearly speak, write, read and understand the English language.
  • Ability to wear and perform job functions using a respirator (half and full face).

Work Environment:

  • The position is on-call 24 hours/day while on shift. Flexibility regarding hours of work is required as needed to meet demands of the job. Position may be reassigned at any time to meet operational objectives.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works at the construction site. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
  • Position may be working with potentially hazardous materials and wastes.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles in a mechanical shop environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection and the use of safety eyewear is required in most working situations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school Diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE), respirator fit test and audiogram will be conducted to determine an employee’s ability to perform to the job standard. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
  • LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
