Job Description Summary

We are looking for an EHS Site Manager to take on a visible leadership role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment where safety, operational discipline, and continuous improvement are critical to performance.

This is a hands-on opportunity to lead safety, environmental compliance, and risk reduction across the site while helping to strengthen a more proactive, prevention-focused culture. Rather than simply maintaining systems or reacting to incidents, you will focus on identifying hazards earlier, improving operational discipline, and embedding safer ways of working before issues reach the shop floor.

Working closely with production teams and site leadership, you will play a key role in aligning EHS priorities with operational demands, demonstrating how strong EHS practice supports better quality, lower downtime, improved compliance, and more reliable manufacturing performance.

This role will suit someone who is comfortable being highly visible on the shop floor, confident influencing at all levels of the organisation, and motivated by the opportunity to make a measurable difference in a live industrial setting.

Job Description

  • Be a visible presence across the site, working closely with production teams to spot risk early, challenge unsafe conditions, and build stronger day-to-day safety ownership.
  • Shift the focus from incident response to hazard elimination, using proactive interventions and stronger controls to prevent issues before they reach the shop floor.
  • Partner with operations leaders to show how safe, disciplined processes improve quality, reduce downtime, and support consistent manufacturing output.
  • Translate Group EHS strategy into practical site standards, routines, and action plans that work in a live manufacturing environment.
  • Lead site compliance with UK legislation and management system requirements, maintaining strong standards across ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 in a regulated setting.
  • Analyse safety trends, reporting, and leading indicators to identify risk, challenge weak points, and drive meaningful continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of EHS risk across industrial operations, including electrical safety, lifting operations, and work at height.
  • Lead robust incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are practical, effective, and sustained.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external bodies, including the HSE and Environment Agency, to maintain engagement, compliance, and trust.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to embed Lean thinking into EHS activity, helping to reduce waste, improve discipline, and strengthen operational efficiency.
  • Support the development of clear, practical procedures and standards that enable teams to work safely while maintaining operational pace.

Candidate Requirements

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent professional health and safety qualification.
  • Significant hands-on EHS experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or operational environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and environmental requirements.
  • Proven experience implementing, maintaining, and auditing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence credibly at all levels, from shop-floor teams to senior leadership.
  • Strong practical experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, corrective actions, audit readiness, and compliance reporting.
  • A practical, organised, and analytical approach, with the ability to use EHS data and reporting systems to drive improvement.
  • A collaborative, improvement-focused mindset suited to a fast-paced production environment.

Desirable

  • Experience in a heavy manufacturing or higher-risk industrial environment.
  • IOSH membership or working towards CMIOSH.
  • Exposure to ISO 9001.
  • Experience of integrating Lean or continuous improvement methods into EHS activity.
