Vicinity is looking for an innovative Environmental, Health, & Safety Intern that will lead development and tracking of several EHS projects at several sites across the Baltimore area. This role will work under the direction of our Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist in Baltimore, MD and work closely with the operations and engineering departments to promote completion of both safety and environmental projects. This is a temporary non-exempt position. The compensation range for this position is $18.00-20.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• This role will assist in the tracking and updating of milestones achieved across sustainability projects.
• Update and analyze safety and environmental key performance indicators.
• Participate in site inspections and walkthroughs, evaluating the use of personal protective equipment, (respirators, protective eyewear, and hardhats as applicable) and job hazards.
• Assist with the development of training schedules, enrollment of employees in online and in-class training courses according to employee job description and hazard exposure.
• Update various tracking sheets, including, employee professional licenses, training reports, and safety incentive program metrics.
• Develop a calendar for license expirations dates to alert employees of upcoming renewals.
• Digitize asbestos records and update tracking sheets.
• May occasionally be required to perform job duties outside the typical office setting.

Basic Qualifications

• Second or third-year student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or another relevant degree.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and not require sponsorship now or in the future.
• At least 1 year of relevant work or internship experience.

Other Qualifications

• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computing skills.
• Strong analytical, data management skills.
• Ability to perform various tasks efficiently, and independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication (interpersonal and digital) skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.

Physical Requirements

• Must submit to company required pre-employment drug screening and physical exam.
• The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and walk in both office settings and industrial environments.
• May be required to wear protective clothing including protective suits, gloves, safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, and others as required. Must be able to work internally in the physical plant and externally on the facility’s grounds or at satellite facilities.
• The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment and clothing where appropriate because of their work around potential hazards such as loud noise, airborne particles, vibration and hazardous materials. This protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, safety eyewear, footwear, hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, and specialized clothing where applicable.
• Must be able to work in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions.
• May require repetitive stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying; intermittent lifting, and moving up to 20 lbs. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, high-lifts, and in confined spaces.
