Applicant is applying to Department 440 Payload Systems Engineering team supporting special project submarine programs. This engineering team is responsible for the development and maintenance of unique one-of-a-kind submarines. System engineers may be called upon to perform many diverse tasks during the project life cycle. Products include:

Systems engineers typically do not perform detailed hardware or software design but may occasionally assess detailed designs. The position requires the engineer to interface with NAVSEA, Naval Shipyards, Government vendors, sub-contractors and other EB departments and stakeholders as necessary. Travel may be required within the continental United States at an infrequent level. Applicants will report to the Groton/New London, CT facilities. Work from home on a part-time basis is available based on department needs.
Applicant will be a part of a team executing the System’s engineering V-model approach utilizing Agile, Waterfall, or a hybrid of both Agile and Waterfall approaches for product development and management. Applicants should have an understanding of what systems engineering entails.
The systems engineering team is responsible for the development and maintenance of requirements, integration of subsystems, validation testing, and fleet support of contractor furnished, and government furnished handling systems, vehicle systems, and electronic systems.
Engineers will perform system engineering efforts from initial system design and development through hardware/software integration, component qualification, testing, platform support, delivery and post-delivery support to include analysis and resolution of fleet identified problems, assessment of obsolescence issues and identification of components for technical refresh.
The position requires the engineer to perform technology investigations, trade-studies, identify/resolve program risks, identify opportunities for cost reduction and validate methods to ensure producible end products.

Electric Boat has designed and delivered 17 of the U.S. Navy’s 20 classes of nuclear submarines. Now in its second centennial of submarine building, EB is the design yard and prime contractor for the Virginia-class submarine program, currently in production. EB is also designing and developing the Columbia-class ballistic-missile submarine which will replace the current Ohio class beginning in 2027.
