Job Description

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is looking for a motivated Entry-Level (0-5 years' experience) Civil / Geotechnical / Dams Engineer to join our growing team in Clarksville, Tennessee. As an Entry-Level Civil/Geotechnical/Dam Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of unique and challenging projects in GZA’s growing practice in the southeastern US. You will work directly under a Senior Dams/Geotechnical engineer in GZA’s Clarksville, TN office and also have the opportunity work with a variety of Project Managers, Principals, and other Engineers from our other offices and practice areas around the country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Executing a variety of office-based tasks including (but not limited to):
  • Gathering, organizing, interpreting, and presenting data in support of civil, environmental, and geotechnical engineering projects.
  • Executing calculations and analyses related to geotechnical and civil engineering (under the direction of a senior engineer) and preparing calculation packages summarizing the results.
  • Preparing drafts of field reports and inspection/engineering reports.
  • Assisting in preparation of design drawings, technical specifications, cost/quantity estimates, and permit applications for heavy civil projects.
  • Performing field engineering tasks including (but not limited to):
  • Dam and levee safety inspections.
  • Environmental site visits (including erosion/sedimentation monitoring and Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments).
  • Geotechnical site work (including monitoring test borings and instrumentation installations).
  • Performing construction inspection and monitoring for heavy civil projects.
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients and team members.
  • GZA emphasizes a One Company environment, and as a member of our growing Clarksville, TN practice, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary technical discipline.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field of practice is required.
  • M.S. in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical or structural focus is preferred.
  • Possess strong communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and AutoCAD skills are required.
  • Occasional out-of-town and/or out-of-state (overnight) travel will be required. Candidate must have consistent and reliable means of transportation to/from project sites.
  • EIT Certification a plus.

GZA’s Dam and Levee Safety Group is made up predominately by geotechnical engineers focused on dam and levee safety work. Typical project teams include hydrologic and hydraulic engineers from our Water Resources Group and ecological professionals from our Natural Resource Group. GZA’s Dam and Levee Safety Group routinely executes projects in the Northeast US, Mid-Atlantic States, Midwest, Southeast, and occasionally in other areas of the country.
