Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity 

We are seeking an exceptional Enterprise Procurement Director to provide strategic leadership for enterprise procurement across NZTA. This newly established senior leadership role sits within Te Ama – Commercial and Corporate and is central to maintaining a strong, connected procurement function across the organisation while driving long-term value, commercial excellence and public sector integrity.

Reporting to the Group General Counsel, you will lead NZTA’s enterprise procurement function, providing organisation-wide leadership across procurement strategy, governance, capability, policy, systems and delivery. You will ensure procurement remains a trusted strategic partner to the business while balancing compliance, innovation, sustainability, value for money and commercial agility.

You will also play a critical role in maintaining the strength of the procurement “spine” across NZTA, fostering consistency, collaboration and best practice across enterprise and infrastructure-focused procurement functions. This includes leading non-infrastructure procurement, strengthening supplier relationship management and contract performance, and championing procurement systems, reporting and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in procurement, commercial or supply chain management.

  • Proven success leading complex procurement functions in large public or private sector environments.

  • Strong strategic thinking, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience developing procurement capability, governance frameworks, systems, reporting and organisational procurement maturity.

  • A track record of delivering sustainable commercial outcomes, long-term value and trusted procurement advice.

  • Exceptional people leadership skills, with a focus on coaching, development and engagement.

  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement principles, government procurement and assurance requirements.

You'll demonstrate a willingness to understand and engage with Te Ao Māori, support NZTA's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and contribute to an inclusive workplace where diverse perspectives strengthen decision-making.
