Enterprise Architect

As an Enterprise Architect, you will serve the crucial role of defining and maintaining Neptune’s enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and roadmap. You will lead the design and governance of our technology landscape, ensuring alignment between business objectives and IT capabilities across our complex multi-system environment. You will work as a bridge between business leadership and technology teams, translating strategic business goals into scalable, integrated technical solutions. You will work in close partnership with the Security Architect and Security & Compliance organization to ensure security architecture principles are foundational to all enterprise architecture decisions. You will be tasked with evaluating emerging technologies, establishing architecture standards and principles, managing the application portfolio, driving systems integration strategy, and ensuring architectural consistency across enterprise transformation initiatives.

Objectives:

  • Architecture Strategy & Governance (50%)
    • Define and maintain enterprise architecture frameworks, standards, and principles
    • Develop and communicate the technology roadmap aligned with business strategy
    • Lead architecture review boards and governance processes for major technology decisions
    • Evaluate and recommend enterprise software solutions and integration patterns
    • Manage application portfolio rationalization and system consolidation initiatives
    • Partner with the Security Architect to embed security-by-design principles into enterprise architecture standards, ensuring cybersecurity requirements are addressed at the architectural level rather than retrofitted
    • Incorporate Zero Trust architecture principles, data classification standards, and regulatory compliance requirements into enterprise architecture frameworks and technology selection criteria
    • Collaborate with Security & Compliance leadership on architecture review board processes, ensuring security architecture reviews are integrated into governance workflows for all major technology decisions
  • Systems Integration & Technical Leadership (30%)
    • Design integration architecture for Neptune’s enterprise landscape
    • Establish integration patterns, APIs, and data exchange standards
    • Provide technical leadership for major transformation programs (SAP S/4HANA, PLM, FSM)
    • Partner with Systems Integrators and vendors on architecture design and implementation
    • Ensure architectural alignment across workstreams and projects
    • Work closely with the Security Architect to define secure integration patterns, API security standards, and data protection requirements across the enterprise integration landscape
    • Ensure identity and access management architecture, network segmentation, and encryption standards are embedded in integration designs for ERP, PLM, MES, and other enterprise platforms
    • Coordinate with Security & Compliance on vendor security assessments and architectural risk evaluations during solution design and implementation phases
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication (20%)
    • Collaborate with business leaders to understand strategic objectives and translate to architecture
    • Present architecture vision, strategies, and recommendations to executive leadership
    • Mentor and guide development teams on architectural best practices
    • Create and maintain architecture documentation including system diagrams, integration maps, and decision records
    • Facilitate architecture discussions and workshops with cross-functional teams

Requirements:

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience
    • 10+ years of experience in IT with at least 5+ years in enterprise architecture roles
    • Proven experience with large-scale ERP implementations (SAP S/4HANA preferred)
    • Experience designing and implementing enterprise integration architecture
    • Demonstrated success leading enterprise transformation initiatives in complex environments
  • Interpersonal Skills
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to executive audiences
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision with pragmatic execution
    • Strong influencing and negotiation skills to drive architectural decisions across the organization
    • Able to work effectively with diverse stakeholders including business leaders, IT teams, and external partners
    • Collaborative leadership style with ability to build consensus across functional boundaries
    • Ability to partner effectively with cybersecurity leadership to balance security requirements with business agility and architectural simplicity
  • Technical Skills
    • Deep expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman) and methodologies
    • Strong knowledge of ERP systems architecture, particularly SAP S/4HANA
    • Expertise in integration technologies including APIs, middleware, ESB, ETL, and data integration patterns
    • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and cloud architecture patterns
    • Knowledge of PLM systems (Windchill, Teamcenter) and manufacturing system architectures
    • Familiarity with data architecture, master data management, and data governance
    • Understanding of modern application development practices, including microservices, DevOps, and CI/CD
    • Experience with architecture modeling tools (Visio, LucidChart, Sparx EA, Erwin)
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and enterprise security architecture
    • Ability to create comprehensive technical documentation and architecture artifacts
    • Experience collaborating with security architecture teams to integrate security controls into enterprise architecture deliverables
    • Understanding of Zero Trust architecture, identity governance, and secure-by-design principles as they apply to enterprise systems and integration patterns

Preferred Qualifications:

  • TOGAF or similar enterprise architecture certification
  • SAP S/4HANA architecture certification
  • Experience in water utilities, industrial manufacturing, or similar industries
  • Background in business process optimization and organizational change management
  • Experience with Agile/SAFe methodologies at enterprise scale
