ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues associated with problematic substance use and provide participants a place of hope, compassion and dignity to recover safely.

About the role

As a Registered or Enrolled Nurse, you will provide holistic and comprehensive nursing support to participants throughout their journey with the Withdrawal Unit, enhancing the provision of primary health care within a specialist AOD service.

Reporting to the Nurse Team Leader, this is a casual position based in Highgate, WA.

This role requires the ability to work a rotating roster of morning, evening and night shifts across weekdays and weekends. You will also be required to work on call when scheduled.

How you will make an impact

  • Conduct clinical observations, including withdrawal assessment using relevant assessment tools

  • Provide low-medical support including medication administration, basic wound care, health assessment and screening

  • Develop health-related withdrawal treatment plans in collaboration with participants and the broader Bridge House team

  • Provide trauma-informed, person-centred care to participants with histories of complex trauma and co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions

  • Work collaboratively with GPs and Nurse Practitioners providing medical support and oversight to Bridge House

What you will bring

  • Registered Nurse (Division 1) or Enrolled Nurse qualification, with current AHPRA registration

  • Practical experience in AOD service delivery, with an understanding of addictive behaviours and both illicit and licit substances

  • Demonstrated skills in triage, medical assessment, decision making and providing appropriate nursing interventions during crisis

  • Demonstrated competence in infection control procedures

  • Competent computer skills to use Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint) and the ability to learn TSA documentation systems

  • Ability to work a rotating roster of morning, evening and night shifts including weekends and weekdays

  • Ability to be on call when scheduled

What we offer

The Salvos offer a meaningful and balanced benefits package, including:

  • NFP salary packaging benefits (up to $15,900 tax free) and Entertainment Benefit ($2,650 tax free)

  • Flexible working arrangements

  • Employee Assistance Program – confidential counselling service

  • Financial, retail and lifestyle discounts

  • Discounted health and fitness programs through Fitness Passport

  • Up to 8 weeks of leave per year through our purchased leave scheme

  • Generous parental leave (12 weeks)

  • Up to 5 days paid leave per year to support a TSA program or activity

  • A supportive, inclusive culture with passionate and dedicated team members

How to apply

Please apply with your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and how you align with the role.
