Enrolled Nurse – Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) Withdrawal Services

Casual | 24/7 Rotating Roster

Location: Garbutt, Townsville QLD

Award: QLD Nurses Enterprise Agreement (QES)

Looking for meaningful nursing work with real impact? Join The Salvation Army’s AOD Withdrawal Service in Townsville. We’re seeking experienced Enrolled Nurses to deliver high‑quality withdrawal care across a 24/7 roster. If you’re confident in clinical assessment, passionate about recovery‑focused care, and ready to support people through change, this is the role for you.

You’ll support clients through clinical assessments, physical and mental health monitoring, and coordination of treatment pathways — all within a safe, culturally responsive, recovery‑focused environment aligned with Salvos values and clinical best practice.

Shifts available:

  • Morning: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Afternoon: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

How you will make a difference

You will help deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care by:

  • Conducting nursing assessments, interventions, and monitoring aligned with:
    • Queensland Alcohol and Drug Withdrawal Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • Recovery Services Policy & Procedures
    • TSA policies and values
  • Working collaboratively with on‑site and visiting medical officers
  • Administering and dispensing medications for withdrawal management
  • Managing client admissions and discharges
  • Completing accurate documentation and clinical handovers
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and evidence‑based practice

What you will bring

  • Recognised Enrolled Nurse qualification and current AHPRA registration
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience, ideally including mental health support
  • Strong understanding of clinical withdrawal management guidelines
  • Blue Card (mandatory for Townsville & Mount Isa)
  • Driver’s Licence (preferred)
  • Confident triage, assessment, decision‑making, and crisis‑response skills

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
