The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

About the role:

As an Enrolled Nurse, you will deliver specialised alcohol and other drug withdrawal nursing care, including clinical assessments, physical and mental health support, and referrals for addiction-related medical treatment. Care will be delivered in a safe, culturally sensitive manner that aligns with The Salvation Army’s values, mission, and applicable legislation and clinical guidelines.

How you will make an impact:

You will contribute to high-quality recovery-focused services through:

  • Conducting nursing assessments, interventions, and monitoring in accordance with:
    • Queensland Alcohol and Drug Withdrawal Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • Recovery Services Policy & Procedures
    • TSA (The Salvation Army) policies and values
  • Collaborating with visiting and on-site medical officers as required
  • Administering and dispensing medications for withdrawal management
  • Managing client admissions and discharges
  • Completing accurate documentation and clinical handovers
  • Actively participating in continuous improvement and best-practise service delivery

What you will bring:

  • Recognised Enrolled Nurse qualifications and current AHPRA registration
  • Minimum 2 years' relevant nursing experience, including mental health support
  • Up-to-date knowledge of clinical withdrawal management guidelines
  • Blue Card (mandatory for Townsville & Mount Isa sites)
  • Current Driver’s Licence (preferred)
  • Strong skills in triage, clinical assessment, decision-making, and crisis response
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals experiencing complex and challenging behaviours
  • Knowledge and application of WHS practices in accordance with TSA policies and legislative requirements

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
