The expectations for teacher performance are based upon the West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards. The seven standards by which teacher performance is measured are as follows:

The West Virginia Department of Education is a government agency that oversees the public school system in West Virginia. We are responsible for implementing policies, distributing funds, administering statewide assessments, licensing educators and providing accountability data. Our goal is to provide a statewide system of education that ensures all students graduate from high school prepared for success in college and/or the career field.
