KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Curriculum Delivery & Pedagogy

Deliver the Cambridge International Curriculum across Lower Secondary, IGCSE, and A Level, ensuring lessons are rigorous and conceptually demanding.
Implement effective adaptive teaching strategies to support all students in accessing the curriculum and achieving their full potential.
Foster critical thinking, advanced literacy, and highly developed written and oral communication skills across both disciplines.
2. Extracurricular & Whole-School Impact
Lead and/or assist with related extracurricular enrichment, such as a school debating society, Model United Nations (MUN) or a school newspaper.
Support the school's international ethos by promoting a vibrant academic culture, encouraging an appreciation for global literature and historical perspectives.
Manage and maintain departmental resources, ensuring reading materials and sources are engaging, up-to-date, and well-utilised.
3. Assessment & Reporting
Monitor student progress through regular formative and summative assessments in both English and History.
Provide detailed, actionable feedback to parents and students during parent-teacher consultations and through formal reports.
Prepare students effectively for Cambridge International examinations (IGCSE and A Level), ensuring all coursework and exam requirements are met.
Note: The responsibilities listed above are illustrative and not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be added from time to time depending on organisational requirements.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Language Skills: Native-level fluency in English is essential. A highly articulate communicator, both in written and spoken forms. Proficiency in French or Arabic is highly beneficial given the school's trilingual environment.
  • Subject-Specific Proficiency: Strong competency in teaching analytical writing, literary criticism, and historical source analysis.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in English (Literature/Language), History, or a closely related Humanities discipline. A PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching English in a secondary school setting, with the capacity and willingness to deliver History lessons. Experience delivering content for Lower Secondary, IGCSE, and A Level cohorts is essential.
  • Curriculum Knowledge: Deep familiarity with the Cambridge International framework for English and/or History.
  • Adaptability: The ability to pivot between the specific pedagogical demands of teaching English and History, as well as transitioning smoothly between Lower Secondary foundational learning and the rigorous academic demands of IGCSE and A Level cohorts.

  • Collaborative Spirit: A willingness to work closely with both the English and Humanities departments, as well as the wider school community.
