Living Conditions

Volunteers often live in small, underserved communities. All Volunteers in Montenegro will live with host families during their initial pre-service training and the first six months of their service. Volunteers are provided a small space heater for their bedroom.

Activities

Plan and teach interactive English lessons that support various proficiencies and learning styles.

Design and facilitate special events or activities for English language learning, such as spelling bees or international writing competitions.

Organize extracurricular activities for youth, such as camps, clubs, and mentoring programs.

Develop and implement projects to improve school facilities or involve the community in student learning.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as after-school sports, creative arts clubs, or digital literacy classes.

Training

As an English Teacher, you will be trained to support English teachers and facilitate student learning. Peace Corps/Albania and Montenegro will teach you Montenegrin to help you comfortably live in and connect with the community. You will also receive language resources and, may also learn Albanian, depending on where you are assigned.

After 11 weeks of training, you will move to rural or semi-urban community where you will collaborate with elementary, middle, or secondary schools. You will work with the community to assess the local needs and develop solutions based on community needs and assets.
