FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Reports to the Coordinator of Lifelong Learning Program

Schedule: Part-Time, normally during standard business hours (8-5), with some evenings as required.

The Mexican American Catholic College seeks an English Language Teacher for a part-time position. Candidate must have ESL experience and a strong foundation in teaching reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, and pronunciation. Candidates must be able to respect and support the Mexican American Catholic College’s mission, its Catholic identity, and its pedagogy of mutuality.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Preparing for and effectively teaching grammar, conversation, pastoral conversation and/or phonetics classes
  • Including the language lab in classes
  • Correcting homework promptly and providing feedback for students, and
  • Providing tutoring for students as needed
  • Coordinating classes with other teachers
  • Attending daily or weekly (as necessary) teachers’ meetings
  • Contributing to long-term planning and curriculum development
  • Preparing evaluations or exit forms as requested at the end of each session
  • Keeping attendance records
  • Conducting oral interviews of new students at the beginning of each session
  • Attending liturgy and prayer with students
  • Attending weekly Program Department meetings

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • BA in English or Education strongly preferred

Experience:

  • Experience in teaching English as a New Language to adults

License and Credentials:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid vehicle insurance

Minimum of Knowledge of Skills:

  • Knowledge in Transparent Language Online preferred;
  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church;
  • Ability to develop professional relationships and work well with others in the MACC community;
  • Experience with computer software and Microsoft Office Suite applications;
  • Must have good multitasking skills;
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good, effective written and verbal skills.
