Job Description

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Build a foundational understanding the F1 powertrain sub systems, a crucial first step in the career path to working trackside.
  • Be responsible for analysing data generated during testing of subcomponents of an F1 powertrain, use this data to assess their heath and performance, generate and distribute reports of these findings to the wider business.
  • Produce and develop the documentation required for running an F1 powertrain
  • Proactively drive the improvement and evolution of the software used for testing.

  • Performing critical review of data.
  • Conducting in-depth scrutiny under time pressure.

Hold these qualifications:

  • Degree with 2:1 classification or above in a relevant subject (e.g. Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Aerospace, Software etc.).

Have these qualities:

  • Proactive and engaging.
  • Detail orientated.
  • Determined, committed and decisive.

Success in this role will be if you:

  • Support and develop the sub systems hardware tests and data review to ensure that there are no failures at track.
  • Improve efficiency through updating of software tools and process.
  • Interact closely with Product Engineering, Build and Programme Management to report directly to the Chief Engineer on the condition and suitability of the hardware and PU’s for their allocated usage.
  • Challenge and assist Product Engineering during failure investigation processes.

Based in Brixworth Northamptonshire at a purpose built Mercedes-Benz Technology centre we are a highly talented, professional and ambitious team of people, responsible for the design, manufacture, testing and racing of Formula 1 power units for Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS, McLaren, Williams and Aston Martin.

Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains also undertake advanced, high technology projects in order to transfer F1 technologies into mainstream automotive and high performance road cars. The most significant programme at present is the design, manufacture and testing of a hypercar power unit for the Mercedes-AMG Project One vehicle.
