Job Description

Engineering Technician II – Motor Development & Test

Location: Chaska, MN (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $33 – $40/hour

Our client is a leading aerospace and defense manufacturer specializing in brushless DC (BLDC) electric motor systems. They're looking for a hands-on Engineering Technician II to support prototyping, assembly, testing, and process development for high-performance motor systems used in aerospace applications. This role sits at the intersection of mechanical and electrical work — ideal for someone who likes building things, solving problems on the fly, and working closely with engineers to bring new designs to life.

What You'll Do

Prototype Assembly & Support

  • Build and assemble prototype electric motors, components, and test fixtures
  • Partner with engineers to develop and iterate BLDC motor prototype designs
  • Assemble to engineering prints, wiring diagrams, and verbal instruction; suggest design/process improvements

Documentation & Data Collection

  • Create and revise assembly instructions, work procedures, and build logs
  • Document build steps, part issues, rework, and test outcomes accurately
  • Take detailed measurements and record motor performance data for engineering teams

Fixture & Tooling Development

  • Design and build jigs, fixtures, and custom tools to support repeatable, safe assembly
  • Create 3D-printed fixtures and tools to support development work
  • Help improve tooling and setup for test and automation equipment

Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Execute static and dynamic testing of motors and electromechanical subsystems, including test stand setup and instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues during assembly and test

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Provide technical support across mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams
  • Work with manufacturing and automation engineers to evaluate designs for manufacturability
  • Participate in design reviews, test planning, and root cause investigations

What You Bring

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics) or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3+ years in a technician role focused on electromechanical assembly
  • Hands-on experience assembling or testing BLDC motors or similar electromechanical systems
  • Proficient with hand tools and measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, multimeters, crimpers)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Experience with CAD tools (Creo preferred) for fixture and assembly aid design
  • Experience with J-STD-001, IPC 610, and IPC 620
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (ITAR/export control requirement)

Work Environment

  • Split between office and manufacturing/machine shop environments
  • Exposure to fluids, fumes, noise, vibration, and moving mechanical parts typical of a machine shop
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (7-8 hrs/day), walk, bend, and move around the facility
  • 5-10% travel

Benefits

Competitive pay plus incentive compensation, medical/dental/vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, tuition assistance, paid vacation/sick/personal time, paid holidays, and flexible scheduling including compressed workweek options.

Equal Opportunity Employer – M/F/IWD/Veterans. Veterans encouraged to apply.
