Job Description

To carry out all tasks related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, kitchen and refrigeration equipment in the hotel as assigned by a superior in line with the departmental standards. Works closely with the Duty Engineer/Engineering Supervisors to carry out operation of hotel electrical , mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, kitchen and refrigeration equipment during assigned shifts aiming to deliver the highest standards of engineering services required by hotel operations. Accurately monitors and records all necessary data for the operation and maintenance of engineering equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the day-to-day operational efficiency of the section.
  • Respond and attend to guest repair requests. Communicate with guests/customers to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools, kitchen, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, kitchen and refrigeration equipment.
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines. Carry equipment (e.g., tools, radio). Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment and all utility shut-offs valves for buildings.
  • Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition of parts and supplies as needed.
  • Communicate each day’s activities and problems that occur using approved communication programs and standards.
  • Display basic knowledge or ability and knowledge in the following categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing,fire protection, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and/or general building.
  • Test, troubleshoot and perform repair of all types of equipment, plumbing, electrical components including lamps, cosmetic items, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, replace electrical switches and outlets, fan-coil units, kitchen equipment and other guestroom items.
  • Follow all company, safety and security policies and procedures;
  • Report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries;
  • Complete safety training and certifications; and properly store flammable materials.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets.
  • Adhere to quality expectations and standards. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language.
  • Enter and locate work-related information using computers. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested.
  • Attends immediately to and ensures the completion of emergency repairs.
  • Initiates attendance to emergency calls immediately, in all phases of engineering works.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with other engineering staff where necessary.
  • Strictly observes energy conservation procedures at all times.
  • Observes meticulously the "No Smoking" policy and all regulations regarding "Safety at Work", at all times.
  • Keeps updates of daily events, especially Banquets and Guestroom status, giving emphasis to VIP's.
  • Ensures coordination with other operating departments in the implementation of repair and maintenance schedules.
  • Performs daily rounds of inspection in the entire building, giving particular attention to defective or deficient life safety features, and observe closely the condition of all operating facilities and equipment.
  • Ensures that all standby units are readily available for operation.
  • Reports immediately to his superior all defects and deficiencies noticed during inspection and, without delay, commence the immediate rectification.
  • Controls effective daily consumption and materials utilization.
  • Reports the completion of all projects and work assignments.
  • Keeps himself updated on all projects or activity status within the department.
  • Familiarizes with all rules and regulations regarding safety at work and observes these meticulously at all times.
  • Maintains logbook of activities with accurate time and details.
  • Assists the Shift Duty Engineer and Maintenance Engineer in periodic maintenance check-ups and repairs.
  • Ensures neatness in appearance, proper personal hygiene, wearing of complete prescribed uniform and polished black shoes in the workplace at all times.
  • Observes punctuality in the workplace.
  • Emphasizes good personal behavior as per guidelines laid down in the Employee Handbook and promotes teamwork always.
  • Follows strictly all policies and procedures of the hotel and the Engineering Department.
  • Attends Engineering meetings and other hotel requirements regularly.
  • Acts as member of the fire fighting team in case of fire or other emergencies.
  • Keeps a close watch on spare parts/supplies required and advise the Shift Duty Engineer beforehand to reorder, in order to have at anytime the expected replacement parts/supplies at hand.
  • Observes all safety measures and work procedures in all works assigned to him.
  • Ensures that all assigned works are completed according to schedule and priority.
  • Ensures proper utilization of equipment and provides guidance to other departments.
  • Responds and makes himself available for any call by his superiors during emergencies, troubles, or calamities. Stays in the hotel as a standby force to aid in emergencies.
  • Follows all other instructions, rules and regulations that may be issued.
  • Performs any other work and related functions, as may be assigned by his superior, to accomplish a smooth operation and maintenance of the hotel.
  • Contribute and support to energy conservation efforts by monitoring energy usage, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing measures to optimize energy consumption without compromising guest comfort or operational needs.

Candidate Profile

1. Competencies (skills & knowledge required for the job):

Has good knowledge in operation, electrical, mechanical, kitchen, refrigeration equipment, plumbing and fire protection. With technical background in the repair and maintenance of chiller, fire pump, power generation, substation, and automatic distribution systems. Able to analyze and troubleshoot refrigeration, air-conditioning system, boiler, cooling water and swimming pool water chemistry. Knowledgeable in computer operation, CADD and building management system is desirable; able to organize a team harmoniously and build a professional Engineering Team, has good interpersonal and community relation skills, and should be well-versed in employee/management relationship

2. Experience: at least 3 years of experience with electrical, mechanical, kitchen and plumbing systems,fire protection, i.e. boiler, chiller, fire pumps, generators, etc. particularly in a De Luxe hotel

3. Language: fluent in oral and written English

4. Education: at least with a course in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and Engineering Technology graduate or equivalent vocational course

5. Professional Certification/License: any related certificate to TESDA, PRC and other entity

6.Personality: mature, polite, courteous, neat and well-groomed, technical proficient, attention to details, collaborative, flexible and dynamic
