The Engineering Technician – Process & Continuous Improvement plays a critical role in supporting manufacturing operations by applying engineering principles and continuous improvement methodologies to optimize processes, improve efficiency, and reduce waste. This hands-on role works closely with production, engineering, and leadership teams to identify opportunities, analyze data, and implement sustainable process improvements.

The position serves as a key link between engineering and the shop floor, ensuring that improvements are practical, measurable, and aligned with operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes using engineering and Lean principles.
  • Conduct time studies, workflow analysis, and process mapping (including value stream mapping) to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize layout, material flow, and production methods.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Root Cause Analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone).
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, scrap rates, downtime, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Assist in implementing 5S and visual management systems across production areas.
  • Conduct process audits to ensure improvements are sustained and standards are followed.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Basic understanding of process engineering concepts and production systems
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis); experience with ERP/MES systems is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and process documentation is preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with operators, engineers, and leadership
  • Hands-on, proactive mindset with a focus on practical solutions and measurable results
