Job Description

The Engineering Technician is responsible for optimizing current manufacturing processes, equipment, and practices to ensure sustainability and continuous improvement of WPP facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and provide guidance on continuous improvement and facility related capital projects (i.e. process flow, change overs, lean manufacturing, value-stream mapping, new equipment, etc.)
  • Support in the development and optimization of manufacturing processes and practices.
  • Anticipate problems by spending time on floor, inspecting lines regularly, learning from plant personnel, tracking and analyzing and correcting process conditions, and supporting productions reporting.
  • Develop, train, and audit standardized work to support manufacturing practices.
  • Establish consistent processes using a collaborative approach with manufacturing and engineering personnel.
  • Professionally develop capital project proposals to be electronically submitted to the executive team.
  • Initiate day-to-day troubleshooting and long-term problem solving.
  • Support product development through process concepts, tools and line coverage.
  • Develop methods to communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Follow available engineering standards with new equipment designs and upgrades.
  • Validate and manage feeder and material handling parameters and alarms.
  • Inspect, track and analyze screws and barrels in accordance with WPP Program.
  • Review, edit and create work instructions, controlled documentation, energy control documents, etc.
  • Offer line side and work place transformation solutions.
  • Research and make recommendations regarding preventative maintenance details & schedule for equipment.
  • Support and implement Process FMEA program.
  • Support or lead safety, quality, cost, energy or general risk reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborates with other facilities across WPP to ensure consistency.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree in engineering or related field preferred, but relevant equivalent experience may be considered
  • Experience with project management
  • 5+ years in a manufacturing setting
  • 2+ years of experience in the plastics extrusion/compounding or injection molding industry
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with ability and desire to communicate well in both written and verbal forms.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to customer sites, vendors, company divisions and trainings as requested, approximately 10%.
  • Skilled in the use of basic computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, learn and use systems for operations and maintenance.
