About this Position:

This position is located in the Materials and Testing Section whose mission is to administer the Department’s Materials Quality Assurance Program. An integral part of the Materials Quality Assurance Program is the testing and evaluation of asphalt, concrete, soil, aggregate, steel, adhesives, cement, paint, and other related products in order to utilize adequate and cost-effective products in the statewide construction of concrete roads and bridge. An ideal candidate should be proficient in the test methods used to evaluate materials and be capable of reviewing sample ID information to determine the appropriate testing requirements.

Examples of duties

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Performs testing on Asphalt, Concrete, Soils, Aggregates, Steel, Adhesives, Paint, Thermoplastic, and Cementitious Materials in accordance with the Louisiana DOTD Testing Procedures.
  • Performs calculations, records, checks, organizes, and enters test data into the required software application. Responsible for maintaining and keeping the sample log up to date, logging samples on a daily basis and performing acceptance and verification testing on all samples
  • Performs maintenance on testing equipment (basic calibrations, verifications, adjustments, and repairs) when necessary.
  • Tests proficiency samples from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) and the Collaborative Testing Programs for Cement and Pozzolan on a semi-annual basis.
  • Requests or obtains additional materials, supplies and/or equipment as needed to ensure efficient operation.
