Job Description

Overview

The Integrated Power Systems (IPS) directorate is seeking an engineering supervisor on 3rd shift to oversee the design completion and design maintenance, outfitting, and test of electric drive and electric power distribution systems. It is critical that we deliver COLUMBIA Class ships to the Navy on time, and deliver systems that work the first time, every time. Electric Boat’s goal is a 24/7 cadence of shipbuilding to meet the Navy’s demands and the IPS directorate is staffing up to support. Success in this position will be a key element to meeting these goals.

This position is for 3rd shift. When you first start it would likely be on first shift for training and familiarization before moving to 3rd shift.

What you will do as the IPS Engineering Supervisor 3rd shift

  • Your #1 Priority in this position is to proactively identify problems and solve them. Your focus will be on ensuring that there are no barriers to the shipyard receiving, installing, and testing IPS equipment for COLUMBIA Class ships
  • You will work closely with the D476 Waterfront Engineering group and the IPS directorate to coordinate our efforts and ensure there are no gaps and no overlaps in our engineering deck plate leadership of IPS components and systems
  • You will build and develop a team of proactive and problem-solving engineers
  • You will build relationships with shipyard personnel and other waterfront engineering resources that you can leverage to get ahead of problems, holdups, delays etc. and help you solve them
  • You will lead a team conducting detailed build plan reviews for the IPS equipment, ensure the output of those plans is reflected in our construction network schedules and that knowledge is transferred and lessons are learned so follow-ship build plans can be improved to reduce construction spans and increase first-time quality
  • You will work closely with IPS engineering component and system owners to coordinate our directorate efforts to support successful IPS equipment installation and tests in the shipyards
  • You will set performance goals for your team and hold them accountable to those goals
  • You will work across functional areas to maintain a clear outlook of efforts and resources required to ensure successful delivery of an electric drive system to the Navy
  • You will ensure your team’s compliance with department and Electric Boat processes, supporting regular process audits and the TPQ program
  • You will lead by example using Electric Boat’s Core Values and ensure your team lives by those values as well
