D457, Commissioned Ships Electrical Engineering requires an engineering supervisor to lead a group of electrical engineers who provide design and life cycle support of a wide range of electrical systems and components on Navy commissioned fleet submarines.

This engineering group, Multi Mission Platform (MMP) Support, is responsible for providing electrical engineering support for the Watchtower Program Office, which oversees the MMP on SSN23. This job will provide for a large variety of work of differing durations, and increased responsibilities and independence as ability and experience supports.

Specific responsibilities of this engineering group include but are not limited to:

  • Responsibilities range from initial system and/or component design, upgrades and life cycle support, to troubleshooting and system and component problem resolution.
  • Development of ship modernization design packages including development of ship modification drawings, such as cabling diagrams, wiring tables cableways and component drawings.
  • Provide engineering input and review for creation and revision of technical documents such as technical manuals, drawings, operation instructions, equipment repair parts documentation, preventive maintenance procedures, etc.
  • The group’s engineers serve as project engineers overseeing all aspects of the development of complex tasks including maintaining budgets and schedules, interfacing with Design, other engineering organizations within and outside of EB, multiple customers and the technical review and oversight of all products produced for assigned tasks.
  • Support design reviews and program reviews with external customers (NAVSEA).
  • Some travel is required.

Qualifications

Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in submarine electrical engineering.
  • Ability to obtain a TOP SECRET DOD security clearance (final adjudication) with SCI eligibility, including the ability to pass a counterintelligence polygraph examination.

Preferred

  • Currently possessing a TOP SECRET DOD security clearance with SCI eligibility, including having passed a counterintelligence polygraph examination.
  • Experience with commissioned ship work.
  • Advanced degree.
  • Understanding of shipboard power systems.
  • Experience working with program offices.

Skills

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong oral communication, technical writing and organization skills.
  • A working knowledge of Artemis and earned value management system (EVMS).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects.
  • Personnel career development and mentoring junior employees.
