We are seeking a highly motivated Shift Engineering Coordinator to take responsibility for coordinating engineering activities on shift, ensuring plant reliability, safety, and performance targets are consistently achieved.

As the senior engineering lead on shift, you will play a critical role in diagnosing faults, managing resources, and supporting continuous improvement across the works.

What you will Do

  • Diagnose and resolve major plant faults impacting manufacturing performance
  • Coordinate engineering resources to maintain production output and meet Works targets
  • Work closely with Production Planning and Technical teams to ensure efficient plant operation
  • Lead and supervise maintenance staff and contractors, ensuring compliance with engineering and safety standards
  • Manage and develop a team including Technical Maintenance Engineers and Shift Engineering Specialists
  • Oversee Works Services and ensure effective delivery of support functions on shift
  • Act as the engineering focal point during site emergencies, supporting the Incident Officer
  • Drive Continuous Improvement initiatives and support High Performance working across manufacturing cells
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations and site safety requirements
  • Liaise with day engineering teams to share learning and improve performance
  • Take responsibility for COMAH-related duties in line with the Trostre Works Safety Management System
  • Plan and organise shift engineering resources, including training, leave, and specialist requirements
  • Optimise team efficiency through multi-disciplinary working and collaborative problem-solving
  • Provide expert engineering guidance to the Shift Management Team

What You Will Need

You will be a proactive and experienced engineering professional with strong leadership capability and a focus on safety, performance, and continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent training
  • Extensive experience in a supervisory engineering role within a heavy industry environment (steel industry preferred)
  • Strong fault-finding and decision-making capability across complex plant systems
  • Ability to assess and understand the wider operational impact of engineering decisions
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
