Permanent
Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."
We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.
Are you passionate about driving change through highly motivated, technically skilled teams? Do you have cloud experience and a strong understanding of Containers technologies? We are looking for an experienced leader of leaders to join our Technology Platforms domain as Engineering Platform Manager – Cloud Hosting
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We sat down with our Head of Tech - Platforms, and they let us know the following about the role.
What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
What projects / mahi (work) will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
Evolving BNZ’s cloud landing zones and guardrails, strengthening identity and network integration, maturing container/hosting technologies, and improving resilience, observability, security posture and cost efficiency. You’ll also help shape governed AI productivity and automation tooling so it’s secure, scalable and genuinely useful for engineers.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
You’ll have real platform ownership—setting strategy and delivering outcomes on foundations that power BNZ Technology at scale. The work is visible and measurable, and you’ll influence how engineers across the bank build, deploy and run services in the cloud.
What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?
Balancing speed, resilience, security and cost in a regulated environment—while aligning multiple stakeholders and driving operational maturity. You’ll need to make pragmatic trade-offs, lead through ambiguity, and keep service reliability front and centre.
What will success look like for the candidate in this role?
Success looks like a cloud hosting platform that is measurably more resilient, secure and cost-efficient, with clear service measures and continual improvement. Engineering teams can reliably self-serve what they need, incidents and operational risk are reduced, and you’ve built a high-performing team with strong engagement and accountability.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?
A strong sense of ownership and accountability, comfort leading through ambiguity, and the ability to influence across multiple teams. You’ll be pragmatic, data-informed, and calm under pressure, with a continuous-improvement mindset and a genuine focus on enabling other engineers to move faster safely.
What specific tech skills would be beneficial?
Strong cloud platform capability across AWS and Azure foundations (landing zones, guardrails, identity and networking), plus experience with container and hosting platforms.
You’ll be comfortable with reliability/operational disciplines (incident, problem and change), and have a strong grasp of security posture, risk and compliance expectations in complex environments.
