Position Type: Full TimePOSITION SUMMARY
Urban Engineers is seeking an accomplished and entrepreneurial transportation and infrastructure market area leader to drive strategic growth, client development, and market expansion throughout Connecticut and the broader New England region. This executive leadership position combines business development, office leadership, financial and operational oversight, and strategic growth planning across Urban's core service lines, including transportation, infrastructure, aviation, facilities, and rail and transit.
The successful candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with a demonstrated record of winning work, developing executive-level client relationships, and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams. Serving as the firm's senior leader for Connecticut, this individual will have full accountability for the Hartford office and the Connecticut business, including growth, profitability, talent development, operational excellence, and client satisfaction, while leading Urban's continued expansion throughout New England.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide leadership for the Hartford office, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on employee engagement, accountability, innovation, and client service excellence.
• Lead strategic growth initiatives throughout Connecticut and New England across transportation, aviation, facilities, rail and transit, and related infrastructure markets.
• Develop and execute annual and multi-year business plans supporting sustainable growth, profitability, market expansion, and Urban's long-term strategic objectives.
• Maintain full accountability for the Connecticut business, including revenue growth, profitability, forecasting, budgeting, resource planning, talent development, and client satisfaction.
• Oversee office operations, employee engagement, and local leadership development to ensure a strong culture, effective collaboration, and consistent execution.
• Build, maintain, and expand executive-level relationships with public agencies, municipalities, airport authorities, transit agencies, institutional clients, developers, and private-sector partners.
• Lead strategic pursuits, capture planning, teaming strategies, and proposal development activities that increase Urban's market share throughout the region.
• Identify and lead regional expansion initiatives beyond Connecticut, establishing Urban Engineers' presence in emerging New England markets and strengthening existing client relationships.
• Expand existing client relationships through cross-selling and the delivery of Urban's multidisciplinary services.
• Partner with Business Unit Directors and Technical Leaders to align staffing, technical resources, project delivery, and business objectives across the region.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain top talent while fostering leadership development and succession planning within the Connecticut office.
• Serve as Principal-in-Charge or Executive Sponsor on major projects and strategic client accounts.
• Represent Urban Engineers throughout Connecticut and New England in professional organizations, industry associations, community organizations, and executive business forums.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's Degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Connecticut PE license or ability to obtain through reciprocity preferred.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible engineering, infrastructure consulting, or related leadership experience.
• Demonstrated success leading business development, client relationship management, and revenue growth within the AEC industry.
• Proven experience leading an engineering office, business unit, or regional practice with responsibility for operations, financial performance, staff leadership, and strategic growth.
• Established relationships within transportation, aviation, facilities, rail and transit, municipal infrastructure, or related public-sector markets.
• Demonstrated experience managing P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and business planning.
• Proven ability to recruit, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing teams while building organizational leadership capacity and succession plans.
• Strong leadership, communication, presentation, financial management, employee engagement, and strategic planning skills.
