Walley is one of the largest payment providers in the Nordics — 6 million+ active end customers, thousands of merchants, multiple markets. We combine all payment methods into one contract, one integration, one payout. Our product organisation is built around seven autonomous product teams that own their domains end-to-end, ship frequently, and make their own decisions. We're adding an Engineering Manager to help our teams and people thrive.
What you'll do
You'll be the people leader for engineers across multiple autonomous product teams — and part of a team of Engineering Managers who together drive team performance, engineering culture, and the conditions for great work. Your job isn't to direct — it's to create the conditions where self-organising teams deliver their best work.
People & growth— 1:1s, career development, hiring, and the conversations that matter. You make sure people feel seen, challenged, and supported.
Team coaching— Help teams become genuinely high-performing. Facilitate, unblock, ask better questions — don't hand down answers.
Product partnership— Work with Product Managers on capacity, skills mix, and how to think about value delivery and iterative development.
Technical context— You won't write code, but you know enough about our stack to hold your own in technical discussions. You help teams organise around architecture and make sound trade-offs.
Who you are
You've built and led engineering teams in a scale-up environment. You know how to grow an organisation while keeping the speed and energy that makes it great. Specifically:
Proven experience as an engineering manager or similar people-leadership role in a product-driven scale-up.
You understand autonomous teams — not as a buzzword, but as an operating model you've actually made work.
High empathy, low ego. Your success is your teams' success.
Comfortable with ambiguity. You help teams find clarity without imposing top-down control.
Technically credible — you can follow a PR review or architecture discussion and add value.
Clear communicator in English. Swedish is a plus.
What you'll get
Autonomy, short decision paths, and a leadership team that trusts you.
Impact at scale — products used by millions across the Nordics.
A culture that's informal, collaborative, and allergic to unnecessary hierarchy.
Flexible hours, wellness allowance, and more.
