We are working with a specialized engineering and manufacturing company delivering structural steel solutions across Canada.
This is a leadership role with real authority.
You will act as Engineer of Record, lead the engineering function, and partner directly with executive leadership to shape technical direction, team performance, and project delivery.
This is not a middle-management role.
This is ownership of the engineering function.
🏗️ THE ROLE
This is a dual mandate position combining:
Technical leadership (P.Eng / EOR responsibility)
Team leadership and operational influence
You will lead design standards, review and seal work, mentor engineers, and ensure engineering output aligns with commercial and operational goals.
🔧 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as Engineer of Record across structural steel projects
Review and seal drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
Ensure compliance with Canadian design codes and standards
Establish and improve engineering processes, standards, and workflows
Provide final technical direction on complex or non-standard designs
Lead, mentor, and develop engineers, EITs, and designers
Drive performance, accountability, and professional growth
Support hiring, succession planning, and team structure
Foster a strong engineering culture focused on quality and collaboration
Partner with Sales on feasibility, estimating, and value engineering
Support project delivery from concept through execution
Work cross-functionally with Operations and Production to improve efficiency
Provide technical support to clients, consultants, and stakeholders
Lead product and design innovation initiatives
Evaluate new materials, systems, and structural approaches
Monitor industry trends and competitor activity
Contribute to long-term engineering and business strategy
🎯 WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario (or eligible)
Experience acting as Engineer of Record and sealing structural work
8+ years in structural, bridges or civil engineering
Background in steel structures, bridges, or related systems
Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams
Strong understanding of Canadian design codes and standards
⚙️ TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT
Structural design tools (RISA, Midas, IdeaStatica or similar)
CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
Project-based engineering environment
