The Manager of Engineering Operations is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the integration of Project Management best practices and optimizing scheduling and task management processes across the engineering teams. The primary objective of this position is to ensure that the NGS Engineering teams are equipped to meet on-time execution commitments while staying within budget. This includes supporting Project Proposals, Project Execution, New Product Development (NPD), and other engineering support requests.

This role is also responsible for reporting and supporting engineering direct labor hours activities, including forecasting and re-forecasting, while ensuring alignment with inputs and outputs from the broader NGS business. This involves collaborating with Engineering disciplines, Project Management, Product Line Management (PLM), Global Sourcing, and Accounting.

This leadership position is responsible for driving collaboration across the Engineering teams to promote and execute initiatives that support better labor estimation process and/or enhance overall performance and quality of work. This role is critical in ensuring efficient project management and effective collaboration among various teams to achieve the organization's objectives.

Ket Responsibilities

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate across NGS business functions to enable integration of Engineering scheduling into broader NGS project management, scheduling, and execution.
  • Create standardized processes for project labor estimation, budget management, schedule adherence, and project reporting while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Cultivate knowledge of best practices and standardize task management and project management processes and tools.
  • Work closely with engineering production system leaders to understand and communicate priorities and resolve constraints.
  • Optimize resource utilization and align Engineering scheduling with project deliverables contractual dates.
  • Utilize project management and task management tools for schedule and task creation, project reporting, and active task management.
  • Lead efforts to standardize engineering schedules and task networking for project planning, and execution.
  • Conduct impact analysis for emergent work. Communicate feasibility and risk to on-time execution of contractual requirements.
  • Implement and manage systems to support knowledge management and collaboration among the engineering teams.
  • Develop and implement training/certification and other development programs that enhance staff skills & knowledge and improve the quality of work.
  • Facilitating cross-functional collaboration and communication between engineering and other departments.
  • Evaluate and report on engineering data related to task and resource management. Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering from four-year college or university; or six (6) plus years related experience in leading resource planning, scheduling, or management in engineering design or power generation projects and equivalent working experience. PMP certification from the Project Management Institute is preferred but not required.
  • Computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation tool and database, data manipulation and any other tools as required for the role. MS suite of tools, Visio, Power BI, MS Project, SAP a plus, and Primavera P6 preferred.
  • Travel overnight (expected 5 to 15%) by land and/or air.
