Job Description

About Radiant

Radiant is building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases.

Founded in 2020 and based in El Segundo, CA, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028. The approach leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors using existing, well-qualified materials.

The Opportunity

Radiant is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the electrical engineering team responsible for test infrastructure and system integration for Kaleidos, Radiant’s commercial microreactor targeted for deployment in 2028. You will manage a team of electrical engineers while owning cross-functional stakeholder relationships and driving execution from early architecture through hardware bring-up, testing, and commissioning.

This is a program-level leadership role with significant scope and ambiguity. You will own the test environment build-out that becomes a foundational asset for the 2028 deployment target, and you will need to move fast across electrical, embedded, controls, software, and mechanical engineering boundaries to do it.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and grow a team of electrical engineers, owning hiring, performance management, and technical development
  • Own electrical and software integration requirements spanning power distribution, signal conditioning, sensor mapping, actuator interfaces, and device simulation
  • Manage schedule, budget, and vendor relationships for electrical hardware and integration activities
  • Drive electrical validation strategy and establish test procedures, methodologies, and best practices across the team
  • Own cross-functional alignment with embedded, controls, software, and mechanical engineering teams
  • Oversee test infrastructure build-out and establish the test environment as a foundational asset ahead of the 2028 deployment target
  • Lead design reviews and communicate technical decisions to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership

You Should Have

  • 8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience including hands-on hardware design, integration, and test
  • 2+ years of engineering management experience including hiring and team development
  • Demonstrated ability to drive programs with significant scope and ambiguity under tight timelines
  • Experience with DAQ and test systems such as NI PXI, dSpace, Speedgoat, or similar
  • Proficiency with LabVIEW, TestStand, and at least one scripting language (Python, C++, C#, or similar)
  • Strong electrical and software debugging and root cause analysis skills
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as required; role is 100% on-site in El Segundo

Nice to Have

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 4+ years of engineering management experience
  • Familiarity with real-time simulation systems or FPGA-based hardware
  • Experience with controls fundamentals and software testing processes
  • Background in high-reliability, safety-critical, or regulated industries — aerospace, defense, nuclear, medical, or automotive

Compensation and Benefits

Base Salary: $208,500 - $284,025, plus substantial equity grants.

Benefits include 100% employer-covered medical up to silver plan (50% for dependents) with Platinum plan options; 100% dental and vision coverage (50% for dependents); sponsored One Medical memberships for employees and dependents; FSA/HSA, commuter, and voluntary benefits; 8 weeks of paid parental leave for all parents; daily catered lunch and free snacks; flexible PTO; and remote workday allocation.
