Job Title: Engineering Manager - Hybrid Lisbon

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join an international technology organization responsible for mission-critical software platforms that support large-scale logistics operations across Europe. You will lead and empower engineering teams while driving the delivery of reliable, scalable, and high-quality software solutions used in a high-volume production environment.

This is a leadership role that combines people management, technical guidance, and delivery ownership. You will work closely with Product Owners, Agile teams, and business stakeholders to align engineering execution with strategic objectives, foster a strong engineering culture, and continuously improve software quality and operational excellence. The position follows a hybrid work model based in Lisbon, with occasional travel to other European offices.

PROJECT & CONTEXT

You will contribute to the evolution of core business platforms that process and support the delivery of millions of transactions in a mission-critical environment. Working within international Agile teams, you will help shape engineering practices, technology standards, and delivery processes while ensuring predictable and sustainable software development.

The environment emphasizes engineering excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement, and modern software development practices. You will mentor engineers, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and balance business priorities with long-term technical quality.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• 
  Minimum 5 years of experience in Software Engineering, QA Engineering, or another technical engineering role.
• 
  Previous experience leading, mentoring, coaching, or managing software engineering teams.
• 
  Proven experience combining people leadership with technical decision-making and delivery ownership.
• 
  Strong understanding of software engineering principles, including maintainability, scalability, testability, operational excellence, and software quality.
• 
  Experience working in Agile (Scrum and/or Kanban) environments.
• 
  Experience collaborating with Product Owners, Agile Leads, engineering teams, and business stakeholders.
• 
  Ability to translate business priorities into realistic engineering plans and successful delivery.
• 
  Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and engineering best practices.
• 
  Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives, engineering standards, and technical excellence.
• 
  Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and coaching skills.
• English (C1 or above) is mandatory, both written and spoken.
• 
  Availability for occasional travel within Europe

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)

• 
  Experience leading distributed or international engineering teams.
• 
  Experience working in large-scale, high-availability, mission-critical systems.
• 
  Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery methodologies.
• 
  Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• 
  Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• 
  Experience supporting engineering transformation, standardization, and organizational improvement initiatives.
• 
  Previous experience within logistics, transportation, e-commerce, or other high-volume operational environments.
• 
  Additional European language skills are considered an advantage.
  

Compensation: €2,500 – €3,000/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
