As the company rapidly scales its global marketplace, protecting platform integrity has become one of its highest strategic priorities. They're seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Fraud & Compliance organization, building the systems that detect abuse, evaluate risk, and maintain trust across one of the world's largest expert marketplaces. This is an opportunity to lead a high-impact engineering team solving adversarial problems at the intersection of AI, trust & safety, and distributed systems.
What You Will Do
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team responsible for fraud detection, identity verification, compliance infrastructure, and platform integrity.
- Define and execute the technical roadmap for fraud prevention, risk management, and compliance engineering initiatives.
- Build scalable systems that generate fraud signals, evaluate risk, and automate decision-making across a global marketplace.
- Develop AI-powered detection platforms leveraging LLMs, machine learning models, risk scoring systems, and human review workflows.
- Design evaluation frameworks to measure detection quality, confidence calibration, false positives, false negatives, and overall business impact.
- Partner closely with Product, Operations, Security, and executive leadership to align technical strategy with company objectives.
- Recruit exceptional engineering talent while fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Drive engineering best practices across architecture, reliability, scalability, operational excellence, and execution.
- Lead technical decision-making in a fast-moving environment where fraud patterns and attack vectors constantly evolve.
- Help establish the long-term vision for trust, safety, and compliance systems supporting a rapidly growing AI platform.
Ideal Background
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience building large-scale production systems.
- 3+ years of engineering management experience leading high-performing software engineering teams.
- Proven track record managing organizations through rapid growth, ambiguity, and complex technical challenges.
- Experience building highly scalable backend platforms with strong operational reliability.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives across engineering, product, and business organizations.
- Strong technical foundation with experience making architecture and systems design decisions.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to balance execution, technical strategy, hiring, and long-term platform investments.
Preferred
- Experience building fraud detection, trust & safety, abuse prevention, risk, identity verification, compliance, or payments infrastructure.
- Experience leading teams developing machine learning systems, AI-powered decision engines, or automated risk scoring platforms.
- Background in highly regulated or adversarial environments where reliability and correctness are critical.
- Experience designing large-scale distributed systems with sophisticated monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Previous leadership experience at high-growth startups or large-scale technology companies.
- Familiarity with LLM-powered workflows, human-in-the-loop review systems, and AI evaluation methodologies.
- Passion for solving evolving security and fraud challenges at internet scale.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a history of building organizations and technical systems from the ground up.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $250,000–$400,000.
