Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a meaningful part of our engineering organisation. You will be leading one or more product engineering teams alongside the DevOps and infrastructure engineers, who own the foundations everything else is built on – our cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, architecture and observability. Across these teams, you'll own their health, growth and delivery, and you'll be accountable both for the products they ship and for the reliability, security and scalability of the systems beneath them.

We're also at the start of a deliberate change in how we build, with a greater focus on AI enablement. We're early in this, and we want a manager who's excited to help lead it – rethinking how the team works, what good looks like, and where human judgement matters most when agents do more of the building. What sits underneath all of this is consistency: working in financial services means the bar for security, reliability and correctness is high, and the people who build well here are the ones who take that seriously without losing pace.

You will:

• Lead, support and grow your engineers across product and platform – running thoughtful 1-to-1s, setting clear expectations, and helping people develop toward the careers they want.
• Own delivery across your teams. Where you lead product teams, partner closely with Product and Design to shape a realistic roadmap and create the conditions to ship it well; where you lead platform and infrastructure, set the priorities that keep the whole organisation moving.
• Own the technical direction of our infrastructure and architecture – cloud, networking, data, deployment, and the patterns other teams build on.
• Hold a high bar for engineering quality, and balance new platform work against the infrastructure and architectural debt that any scaling company accumulates.
• Help lead our move toward agentic engineering — setting how the team uses AI coding tools well, building the workflows and guardrails for delegating work to agents, and keeping quality, security and review standards high as more of the implementation is automated.
• Hire well, and partner with other engineering managers and senior engineers to raise the standard of how the whole organisation builds, runs and secures software.

The Next Moonfarian:

• Experience managing software engineers — you've led at least one team, owned its delivery and growth, and you know how to develop people as well as systems. Experience leading more than one team, or a mix of product and platform engineers, is a strong plus.
• A strong engineering background in infrastructure, platform or backend systems, with the depth to set architectural direction and be respected by senior engineers.
• Deep, hands–on experience with cloud infrastructure — AWS in particular — and modern infrastructure practice: infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform), containers and orchestration, CI/CD, and observability.
• A coaching instinct: you take satisfaction in other people's growth and success, not only your own output.
• Clear communication, and the judgement to know when to dig into detail and when to step back and trust your team. You’re able to collaborate confidently with both technical and non–technical stakeholders.
• Comfort with ambiguity and change. We're scaling and evolving, and the role will too.
• Hands–on experience with modern AI coding tools – for example Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar agentic assistants. You use them in your own work, have a considered view on where they help and where they don't, and want to bring a team along with you as the way we build changes.
• Familiarity with modern web and cloud development. Our stack is built around TypeScript, Node.js and React on AWS – direct experience is welcome, but we care more about strong fundamentals and the ability to learn.

This role is unlikely to be a good match if you:

• Prefer to work in silos and focus only on one domain, as this role requires a highly collaborative approach and the versatility to recruit across all business functions.
• Are resistant to adopting an AI–first mindset and prefer manual processes over exploring automation and new technologies to drive efficiency and advance our engineering organisation.
• Are uncomfortable with calculated risk–taking and moving at speed, as we aim to innovate and push boundaries within the necessary constraints of a regulated FinTech environment.
