AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) is IS&T's engine for AI-powered innovation. The team brings together data, application development, and machine learning — including generative AI — along with data services and customer success functions, to help IS&T build solutions more efficiently and streamline the adoption and embedding of generative AI across Apple.

Athena Platform Services - IS&T AiDP team is looking for a humble and influential leader who is passionate about leading engineering and product management teams responsible for building platforms/ product strategy with a cross-functional team of data scientists, engineers, and business analysts to build and deliver exceptional machine learning platforms that help our organization scale in an effort to further mitigate fraud, reduce risk, optimize internal operations and processes, and improve our customer experience.

You will lead a team of engineers and project/ product managers who are responsible for conceptualizing , researching, designing and delivering solutions for strategic, complex, and cross-functional problems that do not neatly align under a particular business unit. Products and projects are strategic in nature, requiring a strong understanding of current processes, systems, data, policies, and future direction. You will oversee a global portfolio of products and projects and be responsible for all aspects of product features and functionality as well as developer and user experience.

Join Apple's Athena Platform Services - IS&T AiDP team as an Engineering Manager driving our machine learning platforms on Alibaba Cloud (Alicloud). This role requires a combination of product and project management, a strong engineering background, and the ability to build collaborative relationships across various teams in Apple as well as with regional partners. We are looking for someone who loves digging into details, driving operational efficiencies under demanding timeframes, and driving large, complex projects.

You will partner with our Data Science team to manage programs focused on preventing fraud. You will work directly with engineering teams to build out infrastructure and develop new integrations within our Alicloud instance, enhancing and scaling our machine learning platforms in the region. You will be expected to lead the team in delivering solutions that meet Apple's business goals while maintaining the highest industry and Apple Information Technology standards, along with the compliance and data-residency requirements specific to operating on Alibaba Cloud.

Given close collaboration with local engineering teams, partners, and vendors, this role requires professional fluency in both Mandarin and English.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of Python Or Java expertise building Production Applications
3+ yrs of experience as a product manager, program manager, and/or project manager in fraud prevention / risk management domain
Solid understanding of concurrency, threading, multiprocessing and their practical trade-offs in high-throughput production systems
Strong understanding of language internals and their implications in highly concurrent systems
Understanding of how to build, manage, and lead multi-department cross-functional teams to deliver large-scale international products and projects
Experience in understanding and discussing technical designs and opportunities with technical team members and partners
Exceptionally strong influence and communication skills (written and verbal), especially at the executive level
Must be highly autonomous and comfortable working in an ambiguous, continually-changing environment
Comfortable with leading complex cross functional initiatives through influence
Able to respond and adapt to the needs of a highly matrixed organization
Passionate about developer and customer experience and what we can do to improve it
Discipline to work autonomously and independently make key decisions on products and projects
Creativity to go beyond current processes to deliver best solution to the problem or opportunity
Inquisitiveness and a desire for continued self-improvement and development of new skills
Ability to tell meaningful stories with data
Master's in Business Administration
Project Management certification (e.g. PMP, CSM) is a plus
Experience delivering programs on Alibaba Cloud (Alicloud) — including services such as ECS, MaxCompute, PAI (Platform for AI), OSS, and related big-data/ML offerings
Technical Program Management / Engineering Management experience, including working with operations teams, vendors, and contractors
Demonstrated ability to build project summaries, roadmaps, creative concepts, impact analysis, and prioritization in order to influence stakeholders
Detailed knowledge and understanding of key architecture components of distributed computing systems, and the software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment
Depth of technical understanding in cloud, big-data platforms, and machine learning
Proficient in Keynote or PowerPoint to effectively interact, influence, and communicate at various levels of the organization

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years of software development experience/product / project management teams
3+ years of leading teams/ people management experience
Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms
Understanding of Distributed Systems, experience in managing peta byte scale data
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or similar discipline or experience
Fluency in Mandarin and English to communicate effectively
