Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to co-lead the technology delivery and people leadership for two product areas: External & Paid Channels and Marketing Personalization. You will be accountable for technical execution, delivery quality, operational excellence, and the growth of the engineers working across these teams.

The External & Paid Channels team enables traditional and agentic paid media advertising across social, paid search, affiliates, influencer marketing and product/feed management for platforms such as Google, Meta, Instagram and other advertising partners. The Marketing Personalization team builds data-heavy capabilities for customer journey and lifecycle management, marketing automation, personalization and the decision engine that integrates with our customer data platform and channel ecosystem.

This is a role for a hands-on technology manager who understands modern software engineering, AdTech integrations, AI-assisted campaign management, data and ML platforms, and the realities of leading teams that build and run business-critical marketing technology at scale.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead end-to-end technical delivery across External & Paid Channels and Marketing Personalization, balancing roadmap delivery, solution health, security, operational stability and business outcomes.
  • Partner with Product Managers, architects and marketing stakeholders on roadmap planning, technical feasibility, release governance, delivery trade-offs and prioritization.
  • Ensure the teams design, build and operate scalable, secure and maintainable solutions, with clear documentation, engineering guardrails, CI/CD, observability and incident-management practices.
  • Drive modern AdTech capabilities, including AI-assisted (agentic) campaign automation, analysis and reporting; exposure to Model Context Protocol (MCP) patterns or similar AI-agent tool integrations is highly relevant.
  • Lead engineering for data-driven personalization, including the consumption of customer profiles, event data, audience segmentation, propensity and recommendation models, lifecycle automation and next-best-action or next-best-offer decisioning.
  • Define and monitor delivery, operational and business-impact metrics such as reliability, cycle time, incident trends, data freshness, model/decision performance, campaign automation effectiveness and platform adoption.
  • Manage risks, dependencies, technical debt, vendor performance and SaaS or managed-service contracts, ensuring compliance, cost-effectiveness and long-term maintainability.
  • Lead, coach and develop engineers by owning recruitment, onboarding, performance, workload balance and a safe, inclusive culture that enables high-quality delivery.

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You will work closely with Product Managers for External & Paid Channels and Marketing Personalization and collaborate with a wide range of engineering talent, security and privacy specialists, marketing activation teams, media and performance marketing stakeholders, platform vendors and other product teams across the Activation & Loyalty Area and the wider Marketing Domain. You will act as the primary technology contact for these products, creating transparency on delivery status, risks, dependencies and technical trade-offs.

WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for people with...

  • Experience with formal people management for engineering teams, including recruitment, onboarding, performance development, coaching and engagement across geographically distributed teams.
  • Understanding advertising platforms and ecosystems such as Google Ads, Google Marketing Platform, Merchant Center/product feeds, Meta Ads, marketing APIs, affiliate networks, influencer platforms, tag management and conversion measurement.
  • Proven experience leading engineering delivery in an agile product environment, including planning, prioritization, delivery governance, DevOps practices and operational RUN accountability.
  • Recent exposure to AI in paid advertising, such as automated bidding and budget optimization, AI-supported creative and targeting, natural-language performance analysis, reporting automation and MCP-enabled or AI-agent workflows.
  • Strong grasp of data-heavy marketing technology, including customer data platforms, identity resolution, event streams, data quality, segmentation, audience activation, experimentation and lifecycle orchestration.
  • Strong architecture fundamentals, including APIs, event-driven integrations, cloud services, data pipelines, scalable design principles, observability, security and compliance.
  • Experience managing vendors, SaaS platforms or managed-service partners with strong financial awareness, ensuring service quality, cost control, licensing and contractual alignment while making informed trade-offs in line with product priorities and total cost of ownership.

And people who are...

  • Outcome-oriented leaders with a builder mindset, able to balance speed, quality, operational resilience and long-term technical health while turning ambiguity into clear direction and momentum.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity across business, marketing, product, data and technology domains, with the confidence to spark new ideas, challenge assumptions and help the team explore better ways of working.
  • Curious about emerging AI, AdTech and personalization capabilities, combining experimentation and innovation with strong judgment around governance, brand safety, privacy, security and customer trust.
  • Strong communicator who can translate technical complexity into clear choices, risks and recommendations, creating alignment and trust with engineers, product partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, inclusive and empowering leaders who create psychological safety, build trust, listen actively and use mentorship and coaching to help engineers grow, make informed decisions, and do their best work.
  • Analytical and data-informed, using metrics and insights to improve delivery, operations and business value while continuously developing team capabilities, practices and impact.
