Accountabilities
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and support high-performing engineering teams responsible for building backend systems, platform capabilities, and customer-facing solutions in a regulated technology environment. You will combine strong technical judgment with effective leadership to improve execution, team performance, and engineering quality.
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineers through coaching, performance feedback, hiring support, and day-to-day prioritization.
- Translate complex and ambiguous challenges into clear execution plans aligned with product, engineering, and business objectives.
- Partner closely with engineers on architecture decisions, technical tradeoffs, and scalable solutions across backend and platform systems.
- Maintain strong technical involvement by reviewing approaches, removing blockers, and contributing to implementation when valuable.
- Support the development of reliable systems, including event-driven services, infrastructure components, operational workflows, internal tools, and data-intensive applications.
- Improve engineering processes by strengthening execution practices, prioritization, documentation, and delivery quality.
- Collaborate with product, compliance, and engineering stakeholders to identify risks and ensure solutions meet business and operational requirements.
- Help teams balance feature delivery with platform improvements, maintenance, reliability initiatives, and long-term technical investments.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong software development background and proven ability to manage teams building complex, production-grade systems. You should be comfortable operating in environments where reliability, security, compliance, and technical decision-making are critical.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 3+ years of direct engineering management experience, including coaching, performance management, and involvement in hiring.
- Proven experience leading backend or platform engineering teams working on complex operational systems.
- Strong proficiency in Go and experience building and maintaining production software.
- Ability to contribute to architecture discussions, evaluate technical decisions, and engage deeply with engineering teams.
- Experience turning unclear problems into structured plans, priorities, and actionable solutions.
- Strong judgment around technical scope, sequencing, tradeoffs, and risk management.
- Demonstrated ownership of team outcomes and ability to improve engineering effectiveness.
- Experience with fintech, banking, infrastructure, developer platforms, or other regulated environments is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with technologies such as cloud platforms, databases, APIs, Kubernetes, infrastructure tooling, or event-driven architectures is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
