Job Description
The Engineering Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and coordinating engineering activities across multiple disciplines. This position provides strategic direction, technical leadership, and decision-making support to ensure successful delivery of projects and operational excellence.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have prior experience working within the defence sector, with a strong understanding of its regulatory environment, standards, and operational complexities.
Hybrid working role, 3 days a week client site and SC must already be held or be eligible (You must be a Sole UK National due to sensitivities of the role)
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multi-disciplinary engineering teams across projects and operational activities
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to support business objectives
- Oversee engineering design, development, and delivery to ensure quality, safety, and compliance
- Make informed decisions on engineering approaches, resource allocation, and risk management
- Ensure adherence to industry and defence-specific standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders, project managers, and clients to drive successful outcomes
- Manage engineering budgets, resources, and timelines effectively
- Identify and mitigate engineering risks and issues across programmes
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and methodologies
- Support recruitment, development, and performance management of engineering staff
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in an Engineering Manager or senior engineering leadership role
- Experience managing teams across multiple engineering disciplines
- Ideally, prior experience working within the defence sector
- Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle, governance, and delivery frameworks
- Experience operating within regulated environments and working to strict compliance standards
- Excellent leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities
- Ability to drive performance and foster a high-performing team culture
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards is desirable
- Relevant industry certifications are advantageous
