Job Description

The Engineering Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and coordinating engineering activities across multiple disciplines. This position provides strategic direction, technical leadership, and decision-making support to ensure successful delivery of projects and operational excellence.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have prior experience working within the defence sector, with a strong understanding of its regulatory environment, standards, and operational complexities.

Hybrid working role, 3 days a week client site and SC must already be held or be eligible (You must be a Sole UK National due to sensitivities of the role)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multi-disciplinary engineering teams across projects and operational activities
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to support business objectives
  • Oversee engineering design, development, and delivery to ensure quality, safety, and compliance
  • Make informed decisions on engineering approaches, resource allocation, and risk management
  • Ensure adherence to industry and defence-specific standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders, project managers, and clients to drive successful outcomes
  • Manage engineering budgets, resources, and timelines effectively
  • Identify and mitigate engineering risks and issues across programmes
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and methodologies
  • Support recruitment, development, and performance management of engineering staff

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in an Engineering Manager or senior engineering leadership role
  • Experience managing teams across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Ideally, prior experience working within the defence sector
  • Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle, governance, and delivery frameworks
  • Experience operating within regulated environments and working to strict compliance standards
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities
  • Ability to drive performance and foster a high-performing team culture

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards is desirable
  • Relevant industry certifications are advantageous
