Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the Engineering Department and ensuring a properly functioning, safe, and secure building.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Maintenance:

  • Supervise building maintenance activities, staff, contractors, tenants, and landlord relationships.
  • Direct , evaluate, and implement a preventative maintenance program to ensure building systems operate at peak performance.
  • Regularly communicate with landlord and facility partners.
  • Conduct building audits, develop work plans, and implement cost-effective solutions consistent with the company’s overall vision.
  • Ensure the building meets all legislative and operational requirements.
  • Ensure 24-hour service availability.
  • Implement initiatives aimed at improving processes, safety, and efficiencies while achieving cost reductions.
  • Develop , implement, and manage departmental vision, goals, and objectives, including adherence to preventative maintenance schedules and customer service standards.
  • Work collaboratively with MTCC departments and external contractors/service providers to promote the overall site safety program.
  • Ensure compliance with MTCC Occupational Health & Safety standards and applicable OH&S acts, regulations, and codes for all projects.

Financial:

  • Prepare operational and capital budget recommendations consistent with annual maintenance requirements.
  • Monitor budgets, preventative maintenance, and energy usage; analyze performance trends.
  • Manage departmental expenditures, including energy costs, purchase orders, accruals, and budget reporting.
  • Develop statistical cost information to support program planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Obtain and review price quotes for the procurement of parts, services, and labour for projects.
  • Conduct financial and business analysis, including preparation of monthly reports.
  • Maintain general services contracts and documentation.

Client Care:

  • Liaise and collaborate with client service managers to ensure customer needs are identified and met.
  • Prepare specifications for new work and service contracts.
  • Work internally with departments to support the Continuous Improvement Program.
  • Work closely with the Health and Safety Committee and operations team to ensure processes and work areas remain compliant throughout the facility.
  • Maintain quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Develop action plans based on feedback from Client Feedback Surveys.
  • Attend client meetings as required.
  • Oversee cooling and heating services to customers and consult with managers to ensure services are delivered effectively.
  • Coordinate external contractors and suppliers to arrange services.
  • Provide fire protection and security support to maintain a safe environment.
  • Provide guidance, support, and direction to maintenance staff.
  • Evaluate completed work and maintain records related to energy usage, service providers, financial reporting, equipment, and maintenance.
  • Improve work processes to enhance customer satisfaction.

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a similar position.
  • University degree in a relevant program.
  • Work experience with strong knowledge of building management practices and building systems.
  • Skilled in professional trades, primarily mechanical and electrical.
  • Strong ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Supervisory experience with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate a diverse group of individuals in a unionized environment, including skilled trades.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other Microsoft-based software.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) including Siemens and Automated Logic.
  • Experience with lighting systems such as PDM, Lutron, Paradigm, and Chronos.
  • Experience with accounting systems (Adaco) and event management software (Ungerboeck).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively while coaching and motivating employees.
