JOB SUMMARY
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading all engineering activities throughout the organization including as they relate to quality, production operations, facilities, and QAFs ERP infrastructure
This role will have direct oversight of engineering and the engineering team including design engineering, product/process development, NPI leadership, CNC programming, cost estimation, and is responsible for engineering support across the organization including with suppliers, vendors, and customers. This role has shared leadership of the CNC machine shop with the CNC Technical Specialist and is a key part of the company’s continuous improvement (CI) program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (But not limited to the following)
- Engineering
- - Responsible for NPI (New Product Introduction) to support annual and long-range business plans, goals, and objectives
- - Manage tooling, die, and process design functions included 3-D CAD die design and forging simulation
- - Manage the cost estimation process with responsibility for quote accuracy turn time to meet business plans, goals, and objectives
- - Change management of specification revisions and product document revisions
- - Fixture Control
- - Digital Product Definition (DPD)
- - Vendor and Customer technical support/guidance
- - Responsible for engineering contract review
- - Responsible for all MRP specific BOM, process, and WO creation and maintenance
- Process Improvement
- - Ownership of process re-design on production programs to reduce the cost of poor quality and overall product costs, in support of annual business plans, goals, and objectives
- - Improve accuracy of standards used in costing, MRP processes, and resource planning
- - With the quality manager, lead the internal MRB and CAR process ensuring proper disposition, identification of root cause, and implementation of corrective action
- - Drive process control through direct and indirect reporting relationships
- - Manage process control improvements in all manufacturing areas across the organization
- - Drive more complete use of the company’s MRP program for improved efficiency and accuracy
- - Participate in the development of KPI’s and the methods used to track and communicate them
- CNC Machine Shop
- - Direct supervision of the companies CNC Technical Specialist and shared supervision of the machinists
- - Responsible for the department’s resource allocation process and schedule adherence
- - Responsible for the department’s KPIs
- - Works directly with the Production Control Manager on make-or-buy decisions
- Continuous Improvement
- - Co-lead the companies CI (continuous improvement) efforts including a 6S program
- - Support in the development of the company’s CI toolbox and methodologies and participate in training others in their use
- - Participate in the development of ways for identifying, prioritizing, and tracking improvement opportunities throughout the organization
- - Participate in cost control and containment efforts

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent required
- 5+ years’ experience in management of a technical nature
- Significant experience in metals processing and aerospace manufacturing
- Previous experience in a structured CI program
- Closed die forging industry experience preferred
- Forging simulation experience and tooling design experience preferred
- Facilities Engineering experience preferred
SPECIAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Familiarity with 3D CAD and tooling design preferred (CATIA V5)
- Familiarity with Forging simulation preferred (DEFORM 2D/3D)
- Strong working experience with ERP/MRP system preferred
- Good communication skills with all levels of a manufacturing organization
- Proven leadership ability as a change agent
- Strong program management ability
- Advanced Excel skills preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and policies and procedures.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, customers, and outside service providers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such a exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
