Department: Operation of Plant

Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Engineering/Maintenance Manager. The Assistant Maintenance Manager supports the Maintenance Manager in leading industrial maintenance operations with a primary focus on mechanical systems, workforce coordination, and maintenance administration. This role oversees all mechanical repairs, ensures proper technical support and resources for mechanical equipment, manages labor and expense tracking, administers the work order system, oversees building automation systems, and supports maintenance project pricing and scheduling. The position plays a key role in maintaining safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operations. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam required
  • Completion or possession of 30-hour Occupational Safety and Health Training Course in General Industry Safety and Health within 120 days required
  • Possession or completion of Aerial Lift Operator Training within 120 days of hire required
  • Possession or completion of Forklift Driver Training within 120 days of hire required
  • Possession or completion of Crane and Rigging Training within 120 days of hire required
  • Possession or completion of Underground Storage Tank Class AB operator training within 120 days of hire required
  • Possession or completion of NFPA 101 and NFPA 99 training within 120 days of hire required
  • Possession or completion of Confined Space Training within 120 days of hire required
  • Possession or completion of installation, maintenance and servicing of products manufactured by Follet Corporation training within 120 days of hire required
  • Completion of vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or refrigeration as demonstrated by certification preferred
  • Associate's degree in a relative field preferred

Licensure:

  • BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC's insurance carriers)
  • OSHA 10-hour within 1 year of hire required
  • BLS within 90 days of hire required
  • Possession or completion of EPA section 608 Certification within 120 days required
  • Apprenticeship or Technical Certification preferred

Experience

  • 5 years of work related experience required
  • 1 year of management level experience required

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Building Automation Management

  1. Oversees monitoring and operation of building automation systems (BAS), including HVAC and mechanical controls.
  2. Coordinates troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of automated systems.
  3. Works with vendors and contractors on system upgrades, programming, and repairs.
  4. Maintains documentation related to alarms, system performance, and corrective actions.

Work Order System Management

  1. Administers the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order platform.
  2. Reviews, prioritizes, assigns, and tracks work orders for mechanical and facility maintenance.
  3. Ensures accurate documentation of labor, materials, and downtime.
  4. Analyzes work order data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

Project Management (Pricing & Scheduling)

  1. Assists with estimating, pricing, and planning maintenance and capital projects.
  2. Develops and maintains project schedules in coordination with internal teams and contractors.
  3. Tracks project labor, materials, and costs against approved budgets.
  4. Supports procurement of materials, equipment, and outside services.
  5. Ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Assistant Management and Accountability Functions

  1. Participates in discreet performance evaluations.
  2. Assists with providing supervision and daily direction to maintenance personnel.
  3. Reviews, tracks, and approves maintenance employee timecards.
  4. Monitors labor hours, overtime, and job cost allocations.
  5. Oversees company credit card usage related to maintenance operations
  6. Reviews, reconciles, and codes credit card transactions.
  7. Collects, verifies, and submits vendor invoices for processing.
  8. Tracks expenses against maintenance and project budgets.
  9. Ensures accurate labor reporting tied to work orders and projects.
