Job Description

Role purpose

We’re seeking an experienced Engineering Lead based in Toluca to guide a team of talented messaging platform engineers. You’ll be responsible for the technical direction, delivery, and operational excellence of our messaging solutions, ensuring they meet the highest standards of reliability, security, and scalability.

You will be part of a global team reporting to the Head of Messaging and Client Engagement Platforms and will have the opportunity to work with engineers from multiple geographies.

Main activities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of messaging platform solutions (e.g., Kafka, IBM MQ, or similar).
  • Drive key technology wide priorities e.g. maintaining and developing Technology-wide Messaging Delivery Platform (MDP), service resiliency and management, cloud based technology solutions and the removal of legacy systems; sponsoring and driving the continued adoption and maturation of DevOps and agile principles.
  • Set technical direction and best practices for the team, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s architecture and security standards.
  • Drive adoption of automation, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
  • Drive the adoption of the strategic messaging platform in region and the migration and demise of legacy platforms in line with Digital Platforms strategy

Team Management:

  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineers, fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration within the team and with cross-functional stakeholders.
    Manage resource allocation, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Push for increased transparency, breaking down information silos and improving collaboration.
  • Strengthen alignment between local and global teams by advocating for Mexico’s inclusion in global processes, including production support and improvement in operational stability.

Delivery & Operations:

  • Oversee project delivery, ensuring milestones are met and risks are managed.
    Champion operational excellence, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and security requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Partner with product owners, architects, and business stakeholders to define requirements and deliver solutions that drive business value.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams, ideally in messaging or distributed systems environments.
  • Deep expertise in messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka, IBM MQ, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Go).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and a collaborative team culture.

  • Demonstrable success in delivery Technology development
  • Demonstrable success in understanding and delivering towards customer growth in large, complex organisations
